The Shoebox Project for Shelters, supported by Dream, collects and distributes gifts in the form of decorated shoeboxes to women who are homeless or at high risk of homelessness. Each Shoebox is filled with luxury items valued at 50 dollars that any woman is likely to enjoy, but may not splurge on for herself in difficult times. Founded in 2011 by Caroline, Jessica, Katy and Vanessa Mulroney, The Shoebox Project now delivers 25,000 gifts annually to hundreds of communities across Canada and the US.
2015 was the first year it was in NYC and we donated almost 300 boxes to the life-changing women's shelters of Win NYC. Their process starts with safe, clean housing and includes vital programs and services – developed to break the cycle of homelessness, so the women and children who are caught in the cycle can look forward to a brighter future.http://winnyc.org/
We are grateful to have the delicious Bareburger restaurants help us once again by placing our collection boxes in ALL their NYC locations! We will also be collaborating with great organizations such as The Girl Scouts of Greater NYC to make this year even more memorable than last.
If you are interested in volunteering, starting a drive (at a school, company, group or church), or have unused small items that you would like to donate, please attend one of our meetups or contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
