At this month's meetup we will have the team from AppBoy discuss using MongoDB for analytics and the team from Aviary will discuss why they chose MongoDB for their content delivery system.

MongoDB, Analytics, and Flexible Schemas

Appboy ( is the leading platform for mobile relationship management. The world’s biggest brands and mobile businesses use Appboy to manage the lifecycle of their users from install to in-app purchase.

Appboy collects billions of analytic data points each month and uses MongoDB as its main data store and for the majority of its analytics processing.

Jon Hyman, CIO and co-founder of Appboy, will discuss how Appboy takes advantage of MongoDB's schemaless data modeling for analytic pre-aggregation. Jon will also discuss how Appboy uses the aggregation framework and statistical analysis to estimate results of ad-hoc queries over tens of millions of database documents. In addition, Jon will cover other tips and hints learned from growing a MongoDB set up to support thousands of writes per second.

Content Delivery with MongoDB and Node.js at Aviary

Aviary's ( customizable SDK powers cross-platform photo editing for over 4,500 partners and over 50 million monthly active users across the globe. Some of our notable partners include Walgreens, Squarespace, Yahoo Mail, Flickr, Photobucket, and Wix. Aviary's network has grown to thousands of partners and over 50 million active users since the fall of 2011. To optimize the photo editing experience, we recently built a content delivery system that targets users with customized effects, stickers, frames, etc. Today, we can distribute targeted content based on a seamlessly extendable set of parameters, including a user's location, language, app, and device.

In this talk, Nir Zicherman and Jack Sisson will discuss why the Aviary mobile team chose MongoDB and Node.js to build a fully flexible system that scales with our growth and facilitates the evolution of our product.
