This is one of my favorite hikes...the forest is beautiful, there are plenty of creeks and a waterfall, and the view from near Big Stamp Gap is amazing!

We'll do section 1 of the BMT backwards from Three Forks to Springer Mountain. We'll break for a SHORT lunch atop Springer before heading back down to Three Forks, this time taking the AT. As we get closer to Three Forks on the AT, the forest takes on an enchanted feeling, sort of reminds me of "Where the Wild Things Are". But wait, we're not done yet! When we return to our starting point, we can drop our packs off at the cars and head in the opposite direction up a short, 1 mile trek to visit Long Creek Falls. So bring doggy towels for the pups as they will enjoy a much deserved dip in the cool mountain waters! Be sure to bring a light lunch/snacks and plenty of water for them too.

There are a LOT of junctions and turns so you need to be able to KEEP THE PACE OR YOU WILL GET LOST!!! There will be NO SWEEPER so you are on your own if you cannot keep up (expect a 2.5-3 mph pace). Total elevation gain is around 2100 ft. By signing up for this hike, you are hereby absolving Hike GA and it's organizers from any and all liabilities.

Recommended directions from Alpharetta/400 and from the Marietta/Woodstock side are in the links below. If you have a 4wd or rugged AWD vehicle, you can certainly go straight up the way Google Maps suggests (Nimblewill Church Rd and Winding Stair Gap Rd) but it involves 10+ miles on the sometimes steep, winding FS gravel roads. Otherwise, I recommend either of the two links below which only involve about 5-6 miles on a flat gravel road (sedans and small cars should be fine but the road has potholes and might have a couple of muddy spots due to the recent (and upcoming) rains).

9:30 a.m. CARPOOL FROM AMICALOLA FALLS STATE PARK (if leaving your car, you have to pay the $5 parking fee or have an annual state park pass)

From 400/Alpharetta (choose the longer mileage route that is greyed out):

From 75/575 Marietta/Woodstock:
