Monthly Speaker Meetup - Lola Rus-Hartland - The Path of Death and Dying
How do we live with the notion of Death and Dying? Our society has moved to a medicalisation of birthing and dying. As a result we live with a fear of death and shy away from any discussions on the topic. Death can ‘hit us out of nowhere’ - even when we are 96 years old! Through treatment, we end up Dying longer NOT living longer. Lola will discuss: - Facing our fears of death and dying and making meaning (rather than finding meaning) in the later stages of our lives (NOT by ‘being old’, but by being close to death due to illness - which is what most people in this country die of). Most of us know that we are dying. - How to have ‘those conversations’ with terminally ill loved ones or as the unwell person ourselves with our family - Rituals at the end of life. - Home vigils and funerals and their rituals - Grief and Grieving in this society Got a inspirational story or PD technique you would like to share at one of our meetups? Ask us about a 10-15 minute Members Freestyle spot. Please let us know if you or someone you know would be willing to be one of our guest speakers at our monthly speaker meetups by messaging us at newcastlepersonaldevelopment@gmail.com (See here (https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2MD9UaZUXmKRW42cXROdVJMdXM) for details of our past speakers). We are also happy to consider Personal Development Professionals presenting at our meetups as long as they understand our meetups are a no pressure environment and group members are under no obligation to purchase any products or services offered.

What we're about

Public Group

There are lots of awesome people in Newcastle who are curious about Personal Development, Self-Help, Mindset, NLP and other associated topics. This group is intended to bring like-minded people together, so that we can be inspired, learn, share ideas and lessons we have experienced. The events provide an opportunity to share the latest ideas on personal development and catchy techniques to take home and play with.

"Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn."

Cost – Newcastle Personal Development Group is a volunteer ran group so we cover costs by asking for a $3 to $5 suggested contribution at the monthly speaker meetup. Our guest speakers also volunteer their time in return to being able to share their passion/services with you which allows us to offer our meetups for this small contribution. This contribution cover's the costs to run the group, host the NPD meetup site and book the venue for our speaker events. We as organiser’s gift our time as a community service, if you have benefited from the group we would love to hear your feedback on the Group Review (https://www.meetup.com/Newcastle-Personal-Development-Group/about/comments/?op=all) Page.
