• Speech and Evaluation Contests! First-Timers Welcome!

    Langstone Methodist Church

Come and see our speech and evaluation contests! We're speaking in public in front of all who attend. First time? Great, we'd love to see you! Come and listen to us practicing our speaking skills and we'll offer you the chance to do the same with a little introduction of yourself. What happens on a usual night? Speeches - These are 7 minute speeches that people have prepared. These get evaluated so we can encourage and correct. Topics session of 2-3 minute speeches that we have to make up on the spot. One of our members picks the topics for the evening. These can be really fun because they're off the cuff, and it gives us practice at thinking on our feet! We also have a break for tea or coffee to get to know each other. This time, as usual Margaret our president will open the meeting, Nigel will chair the speech and evaluation contests, and David Palmer will deliver the target speech for the evaluation contest. Names of judges from our own and Cardiff Clubs, contest supervisers, ushers, timekeepers, and contestants to be announced soon. David will lead a mini-debate, topic of which to be announced on the night, and Paul will run a topics session for those who haven't otherwise spoken. The first two meetings are free, then if you like it we'll ask you to become a member to help cover the costs of the evening. This is only £40 for the whole year! A bargain!!
