Hang out and swap folk music, play, and sing every two weeks on Sunday afternoons, usually 4 to 6 pm. (COVID-19 accommodations are listed with the session) We keep the venue somewhere in/near Newton — check for the exact location — but people from elsewhere are welcome. Some members just sing; others play instruments as well.
We sometimes use “Rise Up Singing” as a source — we have several of the larger print “Leader's Editions” to share — as well as songs that people wish to try out with the group. (Please bring multiple copies of printed music for the group if the song is new to us. We prefer to have lyrics with chord notations throughout the song or full sheet music.) We informally take turns suggesting a song, and usually leading it. So, you should be able to sing/play it for others if it is not familiar to them, and it’s best if you work out the chords or any preferred transpositions ahead of time.
We sing both traditional and more contemporary songs; check out our previous repertoire here:
To cover cost of Meetup’s services, please put $1 in the jar when you come.
When COVID-19 precautions and cold or inclement weather prevent us from meeting in person, we meet by Zoom video conference, every other Sunday, with music from 4 to 5 pm. Since we can’t sing together as a group in real-time over Zoom because of the audio delays, the format is a little different from that of our in-person events. Please see the individual event listings for details, and RSVP there to get the Zoom link.
