What we're about

Hang out in person, and swap folk music, play, and sing every two weeks on Sunday afternoons, usually 4 to 6 pm. We keep the venue somewhere in/near Newton, MA — check for the exact location — but all people who live nearby are welcome. Some members just sing; others play instruments as well. Please check each event description for COVID-19 accommodations.
We sometimes use “Rise Up Singing” as a source especially for simpler folk songs — we have several of the larger print “Leader's Editions” to share — as well as songs that people wish to try out with the group.
BUT: It is BEST to bring multiple copies of printed music for the group if the song is new to us. We prefer to have lyrics with chord notations throughout the song or full sheet music. We informally take turns suggesting a song, and then leading it, although the organizers will help. So, you should be able to sing/play it for others if it is not familiar to them, and it’s best if you work out the chords or any preferred transpositions ahead of time.
We sing both traditional and more contemporary songs; check out our previous repertoire here: (This is a good place to go to choose songs for the group!)

To cover the new cost of Meetup’s services, please put $2 donation in the jar when you come, or if you are a regular attendee, give us a check for $30 for one year as a donation.

(Online meetings: When COVID-19 precautions and cold or inclement weather prevent us from meeting in person, we meet by Zoom video conference, every other Sunday, with music from 4 to 5 pm. Since we can’t sing together as a group in real-time over Zoom because of the audio delays, the format is a little different from that of our in-person events. Please see the individual event listings for details, and RSVP there to get the Zoom link.)
