Nichiren Buddhist Practice and Discussion
Please try to come between noon and 12:30 so we can begin promptly at 12:30. Chanting books will be provided. We will gladly go over the practice beforehand with anyone not familiar with it. Be aware that parking can be difficult around the location due to nearby flea market.

What we're about

The Nichiren Buddhist Sangha in Oakland is a Buddhist practice and discussion group led by Rev. Ryuei McCormick (who is a teacher in the Nichiren Shu lineage of Buddhism from Japan). These meetings are intended to introduce anyone interested to the practice of Buddhist chanting and meditation as well as to discussing key Buddhist insights and values and how to apply them to our own lives.

Practices introduced:
Chanting of Namu Myoho Renge Kyo
Chanting of passages from the Lotus Sutra
Practice of Calming and Contemplation Meditaiton

Our Discussions are focused on the Threefold Lotus Sutra and the writings of Nichiren Shonin, the founder of Nichiren Shu.
