Anyone know if there is a way to post photos from my Instagram into the event photo pool? I posted those up as the night went on, and they're still my favorite photos of the night.

    June 27, 2013

    • Vincent K.

Download them to your computer and then post to the gallery. That should work.

Found this on the US Capitol site:
Filming and Photography: The use of camera equipment to film or photograph on Capitol Grounds is permitted, provided the photographs or film are for private or other non-commercial use. Non-commercial documentary or historical filming is permitted on a case-by-case basis. The use of tripods or other film or photography enhancement equipment requires special permission, and is limited to grassy areas where pedestrian or vehicular traffic will not be impeded.

True, that I why will will be on the mall side of the reflecting pool which in the national park side and under Capitol Police jurisdiction.

      June 22, 2013

Sorry that should be NOT under Capitol Police jurisdiction.

I will be leaving Fredericksburg minutes after six to Springfield. However, the first metro line to leave from that station after 6:45 (the earliest I cam get that far) is about 7:12 putting me at Smithsonian at 7:50 - all to say is that I will meet up at the next location.

    From the Union Station site:

Do I need a permit to take photographs in Union Station?
Anyone is free to take pictures inside Union Station. However, if you will be using professional equipment such as a tripod, a permit is required. Please click here to complete the photo/film authorization form.

    June 22, 2013

    • Vincent K.

I have planned going inside of Union Station therefore no permit is required. If some want to go inside they are welcome to but as you point out no tripods unless they have a permit. If they are still using the application they were a few years ago its quite extensive and I believe there is a fee.

      June 22, 2013

I will meet the group at the reflecting pool also. I am driving too and won't be able to stay all night

Vincent, I will probably cross your path at some point that evening. I'm going to start over on Capitol Hill somewhere along the Independence/Eastern Market area. 1st-6th & C Streets.

    Cheers!

Thanks for posting the schedule! I'm excited. It'll be nice to get these shots with a group of people so I don't feel like I'm shouting "victim here!" lol. How will I know I've found the group? Does someone wear a sign? Or will I just look for a large group of people with cameras :-D

    2 · June 20, 2013

    • Vincent K.

The best way is a large group with cameras and tripods. We will be very near the Metro Station entrance on the Mall side.

The first year we did this I had a class to teach from 10am to 1pm that Sunday morning! I was able to get a couple of hours kip before class but it did make for a very long Sunday!

I do not if car can parking in Independence ave all night.

    June 19, 2013

    • Vincent K.

In the parts of DC where we will be walking, overnight parking is not allowed. I will be parking at Springfield Metro Station and riding the train up. Union Station has plenty of parking for a fee as does Pentagon City. I would suggest using the Metro to get to the Meetup or have someone drop you off and then pick you up in the morning.

      June 19, 2013

  • Robert A.

Where (specifically) are we meeting? In the metro station, or outside at the top of the escalator? Where is everyone parking?

Never having done this before, how does it work with a group this large? Is it hard to get a shot in with so many shooting? Will the Super Moon be an issue with the lighting? Also, will there be someone to help us with settings, etc.?
Camera-lens wise, will a[masked]mm f2.8 work? My only other lenses are kit lenses.
    Looking forward to it!! Thanks!

    June 18, 2013

    • Vincent K.

Its not hard to get some great images with a group this size. Everyone is very mindful of everyone else most of the time. The moon will help with the lighting throughout the night and should provide some great moonrise and moonset images. Everyone in the group is very helpful so if you need help with settings most are very happy to help. The 50mm to 150mm is ok but I would bring a wide angle lens if you have one. Don't worry about it being a kit lens that should be fine. Just so you know, I'll only have Point & Shoot cameras with me! :)

Do we split into small groups so no one is alone?

    June 10, 2013

    • Vincent K.

We can split into small groups but we try to stay together as much as possible especially during the wee hours of the morning. I will have a schedule of sorts with estimated times to be at a certain place so any groups that fall behind will know where we will should be next.

      1 · June 10, 2013

      , I was a lil worried :-)
