Hello Night Photographers
It has been a great pleasure to work with many of you concerning one of my great passions: the night sky and star trails. I'm the bold guy who often sets his camera up and leaves it overnight. I have been sharing my experiences freely and I am proud to see great work from many of you.
It is quite a lot of work, however and there are not many great nearby spots for star trails. Harold Davis, for example, has been teaching Night Photography classes at Point Reyes and other coastal regions. The night sky along the coast is frequently a source of problems... so Harold and I put our heads together and created Star Circle Academy
. We did our homework and found one of the best dark sky locations in California and will be hosting a workshop there. Where? Alabama Hills adjacent to Lone Pine, California at the foot of the tallest mountain in the contiguous 48 states.
The workshop will be held Friday, November 5th through Sunday, November 7th. Early registration (before September 11th) is $425. The rate then goes up to $500 and if you do not sign up until the end of September the rate will be $600. We are limiting the group to 20 people maximum and have 20 rooms set aside at the Best Western Frontier Hotel in Lone Pine for a special rate of $80 per night - not including tax. There is much more detail about the workshop
, and a registration
link as well. Harold uses Nikon and a Mac, I use Canon and a PC. Between the two of us we've got lots of experience and tips to share
If you have questions about the workshop please ask them via [address removed]
. You might also find it informative to keep up with the StarCircle BLOG
Meanwhile I look forward to meeting up with you at a Bay Area Night Photography or Star Circle Academy event soon!
