This free, technical workshop is being hosted by the Wasatch Camera Club (http://www.wasatchcameraclub.com/) in Salt Lake City. Royce Bair will give a digital slide presentation, loaded with a lot of technical, how-to information, such as: planning when and where to shoot, forecasting, finding dark skies, calculating star alignment, choosing the right lens, exposure calculation, noise reduction techniques, light painting, and blending exposures. Expect a lot of time devoted to questions and answers.

You don't have to be a member of the WCC to attend, but registration is encouraged, whether your are a member or not.

Finding the right lenses for starry night photography...

Light-weight and inexpensive tracking devices like the "Polarie" now allow longer exposures and lower ISOs. (We'll discuss how the night sky exposures can be combined with the non-tracked landscape portion of your image.)

Planning and forecasting the position of the Milky Way.

Work-flow: raw exposure, simple contrast increase brings out details in the sky and increase color vibrance (without having to resort to color saturation manipulations), keystone distortion correction, and final image.

Light painting and blending exposures with moonlight.

Blending sky and landscape exposures to increase foreground detail.
