Halloween is one of our favorite holidays. And since going Paleo we've been trying to figure out how to fully enjoy the holiday while not going crazy on food that will make us sick. This year, we'll be hosting our 3rd Annual "paleo halloween party". To us, that means grain-free treats so kids don't feel deprived, but more of a focus on fun than food.
Last year we rented a bounce house, had temporary tattoos, apple bobbing, a "haunted tent" and did a grain-free cake walk. This year we're going to change it up a bit... since we're holding the event on November 1 we will be offering children an "exchange program" for any candy they collected the night before. In exchange we will offer tickets to events in the yard and grain-free treats. If they don't have candy to exchange, we'll still give them tickets ;)
The party will likely go until little ones are tired, so we recommend bringing pajamas for the kids to change into for the car on the way home.
This year's confirmed special guest is Sarah Ballantyne of The Paleo Mom, so you are welcome to bring books for her (and us) to sign! Other bloggers will be in attendance and kids are most certainly encouraged (although not required) to attend!

Wanna come? Here's what we ask:
1. KIDS: If you have kids that are coming, have them bring their Halloween candy to "exchange" for tickets to events in the yard. Last year people also brought dollar store trinkets, something homemade or whatever you can think of to replace the candy kids would usually come away from a party with. If you'd like to also "exchange" items with other kids then please bring some to exchange. Please don't have this be food, there will be plenty of treats at the party and none of us want our kids on a sugar-high for a week!
2. FOOD: Bring TWO dishes for this potluck. 1) A grain/dairy/legume/refined sugar-free treat to share. This can be cupcakes for the cakewalk, homemade dark chocolate candies, alcoholic beverage for adults or whatever you want to share with the group for the party. 2) Food for the dinner hour. Meatballs, veggies & dip, fruit on a stick, or something clever that's halloweeny would be great.
3. WEAR A COSTUME. No, seriously. Don't be a party pooper.
