International NodeBots Day 2014

International NodeBots day has rolled around again - join us using JavaScript to twiddle servos, flash LEDs and make robots dance!

Sounds great, what are we building?

This year we will be constructing a wireless rover and using it to play 5-aside robo-football with a Sphero.

FootballBot kits are available for purchase in advance and contain everything you'll need to make your very own bot - https://ti.to/tableflip/nodebots-of-london-july-2014

What should I bring?

For the FootballBot, all you need to bring is a laptop with Bluetooth.

If you are running Windows you should first install Visual Studio.

I've got a question!

Post in the comments below or send smoke signals to @NodeBotsUK if you drop your soldering iron in the meantime or get lost on the way.

Also, thanks to those to pitched in to replace my Dremel when it gave up the ghost - that was very thoughtful.

Two more sleeps until nodebots day \o/

Just a quick reminder to anyone who can't make it to UPDATE YOUR RSVP - we have a full house and there are people on the wait list who would like to come but can't unless you hit that button!

Also if you want to build a footballbot on the day then buy one NOW ! :) there's only a few left and we can't guarantee you'll be able to buy one on the day if you don't!

    Thanks all

doh I have un-RSVPd because I don't need a space to actually build anything - Oli said he'd like me to be around for general assistance but I don't think he's actually there on the day..?

      July 25, 2014

    • Alan S.

You should definitely come and help :) - would be much appreciated

Hey guys, are there still footballbot kits remaining or am I too late?

    See you on Sunday!

    July 25, 2014

    • Alan S.

If you can buy them on the Tito link then yes they are available.

Clashes with my son's birthday... bummer :(

    July 23, 2014

  • Anuj

Any idea of the timings? So from 10:00 AM until?
Just trying to plan my Sunday. Thanks

    July 24, 2014

    • Alan S.

I reckon it'll take a 2-3 hours to assemble the football bots, then lunch then hacking on the driving controls. We'll try and intersperse this with some demos and link ups with other international nodebots meetups \o/. We'll probably start the match around 15:00/15:30 and aim to finish for 16:30-17:00.

      Okay good to know. Thanks.

      July 24, 2014

@Alan do you have any recommendations for which USB game controller to buy/use? (thanks!)

    July 23, 2014

  • Alan S.

Arduino mini controllers, bluetooth modules, motors and wheels have started arriving for the kits!

Buy one now - not that many left!

    July 22, 2014

  • Joseph F.

Hey. I want to buy the football bot kit. Is it delivered or do you collect it at the event.

Also, I'm going to bring a couple of espruinos! http://www.espruino.com/

    July 22, 2014

    • Alan S.

      Collect on the day :)

I've been waiting ages for the next meetup and I can't make that date dammit:-(

    • Bernard M.

Boo. I was hoping to see you again Mike. However. There is a nodebots in Oxford in august? Check out there site oxfordjs. Also I'm coming to the conference in September in St Mary's! Bernard

      July 18, 2014

  • Jon G.

Stupid question - can you run Johnny Five untethered now?

    July 15, 2014

    • Alex P.

The easiest way is via an XBee or other high bandwidth wireless card - they connect to the RX and TX pins on an Arduino and sort of proxy the serial port over wireless.

      July 15, 2014

    • Alex P.

The Football bots use a Bluetooth card to do the same thing except the baud rate isn't as high.

      July 15, 2014

  • Victor J.

Should we buy a FootballBot kit?

    July 15, 2014

    • Alex P.

Yes! I'm hoping we'll have enough zipping around to have a little mini tournament.
