  • International NodeBots Day 2015

    General Provision

From GH's readme: NodeBots Day is not a hackathon. There will be no prizes other than the satisfaction of making something awesome! There will be very little in the way of talks. We're going to get together, collaborate and hack. The focus of NodeBots Day is on sharing and enjoying each other's company. And JavaScript. Lots of JavaScript. Follow @nodebotsday (https://twitter.com/nodebotsday) for more info. Thanks to Tim Hasse at General Provision for generously providing our venue. Artwalk is also going on that night so feel free to stick around after the event. If you have ideas or new who can sponsor hardware and more, please feel free to contact any of the organizers :D

  • Creating Workers with NodeJS

    Google Hangout

This is a joint event with Code Gym (http://www.meetup.com/CodeGym/) which is another meetup that I help organize. In this meetup Alexandr Tasciuc is gonna talk about what is a worker, how use them and how create them with NodeJS. In this meet up we will dive into splitting the payload of a single process into multiple workers, so that each spawned process will process a chuck of payload. We will talk about how to create worker managers, what they are and how to implement them. We also will build a small manager -> worker script. If you know of a great location - feel free to message me. Hi all Luis will discuss a pretty interesting platform from Google called Dart. Google's write up: Dart is a cohesive, scalable platform for building apps that run on the web (where you can use Polymer) or on servers (such as with Google Cloud Platform). Use the Dart language, libraries, and tools to write anything from simple scripts to full-featured apps. Read more about Dart at https://www.dartlang.org/ Title: “Google Dart - What is it? How to use it?” Abstract: 1. What is Dart? 2. Why Dart? 3. Where can I use Dart? 4. Comparison with Js 5. Language tour 6. console app demo 7. browser app demo 8. Polymer app demo 7. Drails demo

  • Node Buffers, Performance, and Image Glitching

    General Provision

Hey guys! For our November meetup we are super excited to have a special guest speaker, Bryce Baril (https://twitter.com/brycebaril), who will talk to us about Node.js performance optimization as it relates to the image glitching done by http://revisit.link . Bryce is an active contributor to Open Source and currently works for NodeSource (https://nodesource.com). I think his npm profile (https://www.npmjs.org/~bryce) pretty much speaks for itself. Through the wizardry of the Internet, Bryce will beam in from Seattle through a Hangout! This month we will be meeting at a new venue! Tim Hasse (https://twitter.com/Tim_Hasse) of General Provision (https://twitter.com/genprovision) has generously offered us their space. General Provision is a cool new coworking space in Flagler Village. We are looking into food and beverage sponsorship. Hope to see you there! -Nizar

  • Weekend Wizardry: NodeSchool

    Sun Life Stadium

Hey everybody! As a follow-up to this week's talk on Node.js streams, we will be holding our first session of Weekend Wizardry: hack time that happens in the weekend! We will convene at the FinTank (http://thefintank.com/) event. I'll be there mentoring any meetup goers in doing NodeSchool (http://nodeschool.io/) workshops, in particular stream-adventure (https://www.npmjs.org/package/stream-adventure). Bring your computer and your installation of Node.js! If you missed the streams session it's no problem! The workshops give you good instructions to go on and I can answer any other questions that might come up. If you can't bring a computer we can buddy you up so that you have exercises to solve. I encourage you to check out the NodeSchool website (http://nodeschool.io/) to see all the different workshops there are. Please be sure to register for free on EventBrite (https://fintank-2014.eventbrite.com/) to attend the event. FinTank seems like it's going to have some good content so feel free to come in early and catch some talks. Luc Casteras will be giving a talk for the Miami Node.js meetup (http://www.meetup.com/Miami-node-js-Meetup/events/211853952/) immediately preceding our session. Hope to see you there! -Nizar

  • Streams and `stream-adventure`

    Ranger Technical Resources Inc

Hey guys! We are back after an accidental hiatus! For our October meetup I'll be talking to you about Node.js streams! We will cover the basic API for read and write streams, some streams patterns that I have observed in the wild and maybe a little bit of controversy too. After the talk, I invite you all to do Substack's stream-adventure (https://www.npmjs.org/package/stream-adventure) with us! It's a lot of fun! Brian Nuñez (https://twitter.com/BrianNunez) of Ranger Technical (http://rangertech.com/) has arranged to provide us their space and will also sponsor food and beverages (yes, that includes beer). Come eat, drink and talk JavaScript with us! I'm linking some instructions (https://gist.github.com/khalifenizar/f08aff9365fdb924ae18) for parking and gaining access to the building.
