New York Insight Meditation Center

The Way of Effortless Mindfulness Evening of Meditation & Book Talk Friday, June 28, 2019 @ 7-9 pm New York Insight Meditation Center 28 West 27th Street, 10th Floor, New York, NY 10001 Fee Sliding Scale $15-$40 REGISTER HERE: https://bit.ly/2VU5KkM “In this groundbreaking guidebook, Loch Kelly offers contemporary versions of ancient practices . . . that can liberate our lives with meaning, connection, and clarity. What a beautiful book!” – Daniel J. Siegel, MD, author of Aware “Loch Kelly’s guidance is clear, precise, and arises from a wise, caring heart. There are very few who can guide with such mastery. The Way of Effortless Mindfulness is truly a gift.” - Tara Brach, Ph.D., author of True Refuge In one Buddhist tradition, meditation is taught in two stages. The first is deliberate mindfulness, which includes one-pointed focus and nonjudgmentally observing the changing contents of our mind and body. The second practice is called effortless mindfulness, not because no initial effort is made, but because of the discovery of an awareness that is already awake and able to focus effortlessly. “Effortless mindfulness” is an advanced yet simple form of mindfulness available to us in the midst of our busy lives. In The Way of Effortless Mindfulness, Loch teaches that when you “unhook” awareness from chattering thoughts, you can access a peaceful mind and a naturally embodied wakefulness. From this heartful space, students report that wise action comes easily and compassion for all of life is freely available. This evening of meditation and book signing is based on Loch Kelly’s new book, The Way of Effortless Mindfulness, available here: https://lochkelly.org/way-of-effortless-mindfulness/ Loch will be available to sign his new book after the meditation evening. Nondual Mindfulness Daylong: The Way of Effortless Mindfulness with Loch Kelly

New York Insight Meditation Center

The Way of Effortless Mindfulness Nondual Mindfulness Daylong Saturday, June 29, 2019 @ 10 am-5 pm New York Insight Meditation Center 28 West 27th Street, 10th Floor New York, NY 10001 Fee Sliding Scale: $50-$150 REGISTER HERE: https://bit.ly/2WSiSmO “In this groundbreaking guidebook, Loch Kelly offers contemporary versions of ancient practices . . . that can liberate our lives with meaning, connection, and clarity. What a beautiful book!” – Daniel J. Siegel, MD, author of Aware “Loch Kelly’s guidance is clear, precise, and arises from a wise, caring heart. There are very few who can guide with such mastery. The Way of Effortless Mindfulness is truly a gift.” - Tara Brach, Ph.D., author of True Refuge This daylong retreat and book signing is based on Loch Kelly’s new book, The Way of Effortless Mindfulness. In the Indo-Tibetan Buddhist tradition, meditation is taught in two stages. The first is deliberate mindfulness, which includes one-pointed focus and insight meditation. The second practice is called effortless mindfulness, not because no initial effort is made, but because of the discovery of an awareness that is already awake and has natural compassion. We can begin with deliberate mindfulness as a good foundation or start with effortless mindfulness. In this daylong retreat, we will learn how to unhook awareness from thinking and have it turn around to be aware from awake awareness. Rather than concentrating to calm and focus your mind, we will learn to intentionally shift into awake awareness, which is already calm, intelligent, and able to effortlessly focus. This is an important practice to learn for your journey of awakening. Effortless mindfulness helps us shift from a self-centered identity to an empty, yet open-hearted, way of seeing and being.
