Needs a location
My next walk will be from Holkham to Wells on Sea returning via the Holkham Estate. The length of the walk will vary depending on, if the tide is in or out or which option you choose to take.
Stage 1: Our route will take us from the Holkham estate along Lady Annes Drive down to Holkham beach. From there, if the tide is out we will explore the beach, looking for buried treasure, contraband washed ashore from passing pirate ships or just pretty sea shells. If the tide is in we will follow the costal path alongside the nature reserve eastwards to Wells beach.
Stage 2: We will then take the path which will lead us back inland to Wells quay. From there we will walk through Wells town to Buttlands (there are two pubs here. Hooray, I hear you cry!) and in true Hike Norfolk tradition you will have the opportunity to buy alcohol, but only if you want too! Departing Buttlands we will follow tracks and footpaths back to the Holkham estate.
Stage 3: When inside the estate we have 2 options. Option1 we will walk the lake, passing an obelisk and a church before we arrive at the main hall. We will be walking through the main parkland where if lucky, you might get to see some deer and other wildlife before we return to the back to car park. Option 2 is a shorter route and allows you to miss off the park walk and just return back to the car park.
Afterwards, should you still be in the need of more food and drink we can call into the Victoria Pub before we head home. Note: Gossiping will of course be compulsory on the walk!
Starting Point: Meet at the free car park at Holkham Hall ( sign posted Village car park). Approaching Holkham from Wells turn left at the Victoria pub into Holkham Estate and the car park is about 600 yards on the right. Postcode NR23 1RG will get you close.
1) This will be a leisurely / moderate walk suited for reasonably fit people with at least a little country walking experience. Speed wise, we will average 2.5 / 3.0 mph.
2) The terrain may include country lanes, paths and field edges so walking boots/shoes are recommended along with suitable clothing for the weather.
3) There will be 3 or 4 breaks for drinks and a stop for lunch which you need to bring with you.
If you're new to the group and you have any questions about the walk please message me here directly and I’ll endeavour to answer them.
Thanks – Steve
