This is a joint walk between Legstretchers (the long distance walking group of Norfolk Area Ramblers) and LDWA (the long distance walkers association).
The LDWA hold three or four challenge events every year which are self-led. In the summer of 2019, as a special one-off the Wolsey Waddle took place around Ipswich, with a choice of 20 or 30 mile routes. This event won't be held again as challenge walk, but we want to give people the chance to walk it as part of a led walk. It's good practice if you want to follow an LDWA route description or GPX file, whilst being part of a led walk (NB, I - which is Julian - will be leading from the GPX file, so it's good practice for me too).
So, this is the 20 mile version of the walk and if anyone wants the GPX or route description it's at (https://www.ldwa.org.uk/NorfolkAndSuffolk/W/1409/n-s-events.html). This is the short route, but please note we're starting from Ipswich railway station (so that the tides and things work out), but that's the only difference.
I'm delighted to report that there is a Greggs at Ipswich railway station to stock up, or bring other food and drink. Bring lots of water, although some of the walk is urban and so you'll get a chance to restock. If there's sufficient interest, I might see if I can get a temporary checkpoint set up, but I can't promise that at this stage. We're starting at 09:30 and the pace will be moderate as it's a lot of distance to get around in the time that we have. Bring a head-torch if you have one, but I'll be irritated with my leadership skills if we need them, as the last part of the walk is through Ipswich town centre.
For those coming from Norfolk, I plan to get a train ticket down to Ipswich. We can get a joint ticket to save money, or there may be car sharing.
As a bonus, anyone completing the walk will be sent a certificate (some of the supplies we have left from the challenge event, unless someone has chucked them away). We'll reprint something though as a reward for completion :)
