37th NBPA Paint-Out: Tennessee Valley Trail

We brought up the idea of painting at Tennessee Valley in the Marin Headlands. I think it's one of the most accessible beaches in Marin County (facing the Pacific), with it only being a few miles west of the 101. Though there is a bit of a long walk to the beach, there is plenty of scenery along the hills. The coast is always cooler, in case of another scorcher like today.

Directions Click Here For Google Maps

Take exit 445B for CA-1 towards Stinson Beach. Right before the bridge that takes you across the river, turn left on to Tennessee Valley Road. This road goes for about a mile until you reach the main parking lot.

Parking
The trailhead has a somewhat small parking lot so please do arrive EARLY if you want to be able to park there. There is some parking along the road before you get to the main lot, but those spots may fill on a Sunday as well. Be there no later than 10am for the best chance at parking.

We will meet at the trailhead for our meetup, and some of us I am sure will trek down to the beach. We can meet up at 2pm at the trailhead again to share our paintings.

It's a beautiful place to paint or do anything else. However, I can hardly walk a block because my left hip hurts so much. Wish things were different. I used to enjoy hiking.

It's just over a mile to the beach, but lots to paint along the trail too.

Sorry I can't make it - it is a great spot. I live nearby and confirm weather and parking issues. It is 2+ miles to the beach but a bike works if your gear is conducive. If it is foggy or windy you can paint at the horse ranch near the parking lot. There is also a path heading east from parking lot with good views of Tam. Have fun!

Sorry I can't make it - headed down the coast on a painting trip. I live near that spot and confirm that weather and parking are tricky. It is 2+ miles to the beach, but you can ride a bike if your gear is conducive. If it's foggy, painting near the horse ranch is an option. There is also a trail headed eastwards from the parking lot with some nice vistas of Mt. Tam. Suggest you get there by 9 am. Have fun!

How early should we make it?

It's about a half mile to the beach, as I recall from walking it many years ago. I think there is a horse stable at the trail head with plenty of opportunity for painting there, and good scenery on the trail, as you said.
