What we're about

Welcome to the Meet-Up page for the St. Benedict Parish & Community Choir!

This group was founded in 2013 by Jeremy Kiolbassa, Director of Music at St. Benedict Parish. Over the past few years our little group has gone by a few names: The St. Benedict Chorale, North Center Chorale, The Chorale @ St. Ben's, and has gone through different phases as far as membership and identity. In this relatively short time we have performed a variety of repertoire such as Haydn's Missa Sancti Nicolai and Vivaldi's Gloria, and most recently Franz Schubert's Mass in G Major. We are very fortunate to rehearse and perform in the beautiful and reverberant sanctuary of St. Benedict Catholic Church. We have struggled questions such as "Are we a church choir, or are we a strictly secular community choir?" and "What way can we best serve our community and the parish that supports us?" We have, it seems, finally found a balance, a name, and an identity as a group...

The St. Benedict Parish & Community Choir is a volunteer ensemble comprised of members of St. Benedict Parish and the greater Chicagoland area. Our goal is to strive for musical excellence and to explore the great wealth of sacred choral repertoire written in the Catholic and Christian tradition and beyond. Our choir is part of the liturgical ministry of St. Benedict Catholic Parish in Chicago. Though we are a Catholic organization, we welcome people of all faiths, orientations, and backgrounds. No matter what your belief (or lack thereof) we hope that you will consider becoming part of our chorus. We know that though each one of us come from a different place, the power of music is universal. We strive for excellence in all that we do, and above all else, to create art in the highest form.

Rehearsals take place on Wednesday nights at 7pm. The choir sings weekly for the 9am Mass at St. Benedict Church, Holy Days, and concerts throughout the year. We perform at least one large scale choral-orchestral work annually with the Ravenswood Community Orchestra.

If you are thinking about singing, haven't sung in a while, or are just "choir curious", we encourage you to stop by and try us out. Though we are a serious performing ensemble, our choir is a fun and energetic group of varied backgrounds and talent levels.
