Founded in 2013, the Chorale is an auditioned ensemble with a focus unaccompanied music, and strives for musical excellence. The Chorale performs several concerts throughout the year as well as sing for the 5pm Saturday mass once a month in the beautiful and reverberant sanctuary of St. Benedict Church. Most recently, we performed Haydn's Missa Sancti Nicolai in collaboration with The Ravenswood Community Orchestra, North Shore Opera Hour, and several other local choirs. This year's concert lineup included a performance of Vivaldi's Gloria and a concert of modern composers in the Spring. Though we are a serious performing ensemble, we are also a fun and energetic group of 20 and 30 somethings who enjoy each other's company as much as the music we make. Rehearsals: Rehearsals take place on Thursday evening at St. Benedict Church Performance Obligations: 1 Saturday evening mass per month, Christmas Concert in December Good Friday Service, 2 other scheduled concerts per year. Expectations: Ensemble members are expected to be able to learn music independently and/or sight read at an advanced level. Auditions are based not only on individual talent, but on the overall blend of each section and the ensemble. Voices that blend well are often chosen over those who are big or operatic. There is a limit of 4 or 5 voices on each part. We will have an open rehearsal/auditions on 9/24 and 10/1 at St. Benedict Church: 2215 W. Irving Park Rd. Prospective members are invited to sit in for the rehearsal and will be asked to sing a piece of their choice at the end of rehearsal. Please note: This is a volunteer community choir. All are invited to participate regardless of religious denomination (or lack thereof)!
