  • May 17, 2014 · 10:30 AM
  • Rodger and Gail's

We are going to host a cold pack blueberry canning day and cook out at our home. Pick your berries in the morning and come on over and we will can them together. They make great cobbler fruit and you can make wonderful pancake syrup from the juice. Here is what you need to bring:
You can pick your fruit where you are or come down to the Abshire farm and pick with us.
Quart Canning jars with lids and rings
2 pound Bag of sugar (depending on how many berries you want)
Your favorite side dish if you want to stay for the cook out.

Canning event will start about 11:00 am
Cook out will start about 12:30 or so

Couldn't have asked for a nicer day to spend with such wonderful people. It was my first time picking at that location and the berries were fat, juicy, and sweet. The canning was very well organized and processing went quickly and smoothly. Roger prepared mouth watering corn, burgers and hot dogs to share. Wish I could have stayed to enjoy the feast and company. Maybe next time. Thank you Gail and Roger for sharing your knowledge and hospitality.

Kim and I went picking and everyone else met at the house and we canned our booty. In all we made 18 quarts and 8 pints. Good learning and a great lunch with friends. Sorry for those who missed it, but we will do it again.

We are gearing up for the canning meet. We have hot dogs, burgers, corn on the cob, and a few other things. Hopefully the berries will be sweet and we will have a good time. See you guys tomorrow!

I am sorry you guys won't be making it. Someday we will enjoy the fellowship of our families outside the regular meeting. LOL
