The North Country Gaylaxians is the Twin Cities’ chapter of the Gaylactic Network (a national organization for GLBT people and their friends, who are interested in science fiction, fantasy, horror and gaming). We read and discuss Science Fiction / Fantasy / Horror and other speculative fiction with positive GLBT or similar content or by GLBT authors; have regular game nights; and sponsor panel discussions at conventions. Many of our books for discussion are taken from the Spectrum Award or Lambda Awards winners or short lists, but we are always open for suggestions. Our book discussions meet at the Quatrefoil Library at 7:00 pm on the second Tuesday of the month. We also periodically host Gaylaxicon, a national GLBT science fiction, fantasy, horror and gaming convention that travels around the country.
This month we will be reading the graphic novel "On a Sunbeam" by Tillie Walden. This discussion will be virtual.
From Kirkus Review: After graduating from an all-girls boarding school, Mia, a light-skinned, black-haired girl, joins a reconstruction crew traveling through space to restore crumbling buildings with ancient and forgotten histories. She carries with her memories of Grace, the girl she fell in love with and lost during her freshman year of school. As Mia develops close bonds with her teammates, she learns they each have mysterious and complicated pasts of their own. Despite their differences, the strength of their love holds them together on a dangerous journey to the farthest reaches of space.
