Volunteers from the Student Conservation Association out of Pittsburgh will be working with the Wampum Chapter on a North Country Trail reroute Saturday, April 14th and Sunday, April 15th. This group has done a lot of work on the NCT over the past several years, building new trail and rehabilitating existing treadway, and we always appreciate their help.
We're encouraging folks to come out and work with them (as well as express appreciation) as they move the trail higher on the hillside below Tony Dytko Rd. The pathway in this area has become a wet and muddy mess over the past couple of years and this reroute will help keep hikers' feet dry.
Tools will be provided, please bring drinking water and a lunch if you plan to spend the day working on the trail. No experience necessary as these projects are always a good opportunity to teach trail building basics. If you can't spend the whole day, come out for a couple of hours, or even hike on by and say "Thanks" to this crew.
The group is expected to arrive at the Wampum Depot Train Station at 10:00 Saturday morning and we'll travel to Tony Dytko Rd. together from there to begin work, finishing up at around 3:30 or 4:00 that afternoon. They'll overnight in the area and will resume work on Sunday morning, going until 1:00 or so before returning home.
