What we're about

This group is for anyone who has a passion for craft beer and literature ― "beer-bliophiles"! This year (our 7/th!) we will be hunting down clever reads in a variety of genres and themes. We are also now live and in person! Starting in May we will be meeting in local breweries for both socials and book discussions. Check out our calendar for details!

“Being a nerd, which is to say going too far and caring too much about a subject, is the best way to make friends I know.” ― Sarah Vowell

Quick Note: Please think carefully about your ability to commit to a book club before joining! We meet biweekly on Sundays (only - with rare exceptions), and flaky members are not appreciated. "No show" members will be removed on a case-by-case basis if repeated flaking affects event planning. If your Sundays are mostly open, you love beer, and are willing to read a book you may or may not like, then please join us!

We are open to everyone of any race, religion, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, and of drinking age and beyond.

The Invisible Life of Addie Larue by V. E. Schwab Discussion

BattleMage Brewing Company

This will be our first in-person meeting! We are planning to meet outdoors at Stone Escondido, but things may change based on availability. We will keep you up to date.

For May, we will be reading The Invisible Life of Addie Larue by V. E. Schwab

Synopsis: France, 1714: in a moment of desperation, a young woman makes a Faustian bargain to live forever―and is cursed to be forgotten by everyone she meets.

Thus begins the extraordinary life of Addie LaRue, and a dazzling adventure that will play out across centuries and continents, across history and art, as a young woman learns how far she will go to leave her mark on the world.

But everything changes when, after nearly 300 years, Addie stumbles across a young man in a hidden bookstore and he remembers her name.

June Book Nomination: A book that has won the Women's Prize for Fiction

This prize is given out each July. I thought it would be fun to either read a previous winner (as the prompt says) or read one of the nominees for this year's prize. Below you will find the list of previous winners as well as the list of nominees for this year.

Hello and welcome to the nomination event for June's book. PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE POST (details may have been changed/added) and view the example image for guidance.

Please submit your nomination and cast all final votes by the end of this scheduled event. Once the event is over, the nomination will be closed.

We will be using the dot voting method, and each participant will have 3 dots to vote with. You may put all 3 into your favored choice, split them 2/1 for top two, or select top 3 choices 1/1/1/. The nomination with the most collective dots at the end will be the selection.
