The Election Is Over - And I Can't Sleep at Night ....

  • December 2 · 6:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Hi, all, and welcome to the group! I'm sorry it isn't under happier circumstances.

In light of the recent turn of events I am trying to arrange a meeting in the next few weeks to discuss the election results and mobilize like-minded people to discuss ideas and take action where possible (e.g., the Grab Em By the Wallet campaign, calling your local representatives, etc.).

I am proposing a Dec. 2 meeting in Roswell since it seems to be centrally located. Please let me know if you are able to attend and I will secure a meeting place.

I look forward to getting the ball rolling and trying to save the great nation once known as the "United" States.

Hey, everyone, thanks for coming out tonight! Sorry it was a bit noisy but our next meeting will be held someplace quieter. Details coming soon! In the meantime, please use the Discussions page of this site to post news, actions, petitions, etc., you believe would be helpful to our cause and of interested to other group members.

Hi, all. I have reserved a table for 15 -- the biggest table they have. It's under my name, Sally. Don't worry if we have a few extra people -- we'll figure out the seating! Looking forward to seeing everyone soon.

Sadly, an unforeseen incident prevents me from attending the meeting today. Hope to meet some of you in future meetings.

I will probably be a little late. But I'll be there.

I need to cancel. We are in the middle of moving my sister and brother-in-law into a new house. First day and I am exhausted and the movers don't arrive until Saturday. Hope to catch up with y'all at the next get together.

to meet in Cumming would be better for me as I live in Dawsonville.

    November 17

    • Eric M.

Hi Elvie, would you like to carpool? Lets see if anyone else from Dawsonville or Cumming is interested in carpooling.

      December 1

    • Elvie

Eric thanks for the offer to carpool but I am not going this time since I have the most awful cold. Would appreciate it on next meeting if it is still held in Canton.

There is a private meeting room at Las Palmas across from Walmart.
Not sure about their politics or policies tho.

I think it is a reasonably safe bet that people of Hispanic origin are not Trump supporters. It is possible, but not likely :)

  • Eric M.

Here is an idea... I see a few people on here live in Dawsonville (also known as Liberal Hell), and Cumming. I live in Dawsonville as well. What about doing a carpool? I can drive, as driving to Canton is no big deal for me (I do it at least once a week, sometimes twice) I can take 1 additional person, or two in a pinch. Maybe someone else has a larger vehicle? I would propose that the riders split the driver's check.

I didn't realize when I joined that this group was going to meet all the way up in Canton. I can't make a 6:30 meeting in Canton when I drive home from work in Lawrenceville to home in Alpharetta. I was so looking forward to tomorrow night's meeting and being in the company of kindred spirits.

The Republican take over and the Trump Cabinet may mean life or dead for me as I'm on Social Security Disability and Medicare. I should not have joined this group as driving to and from Canton and northern areas at night is impossible. Please delete me from membership.

    • Sally

Hey, Sherry. Sorry to hear that, and thank you for letting me know. I will remove you from the group.

Unfortunately last week I broke a leg. This is not a performance joke. I'm afraid I won't be out of the house much for a couple of months (or even upstairs for that matter) but I'll be keeping an eye on the group's posts.

Lots of sleepless people after that election I guess. I look forward to sharing ideas with the group.

Wow, our group is growing. That's great! We may not all fit at one table but we can make an effort to mingle.

Do you want me to check on the room at Las Palmas?

    • Sally

Hey, Karen, that would be great! Can you please check? Thank you!

Hi Everyone, glad to see the group is forming! But I will have to bow out, as I am in South Forsyth and was under the impression we'd be meeting halfway between the Canton area and me. Seems from the discussion, this group is going to be meeting there. Sorry! Will have to find a liberal group closer to home.

Going Coastal is booked ...gonna try for olive garden instead.

      Thanks Sally
Let me know if you need any help.
      Happy Thanksgiving!

Going Coastal is great - I've been wanting to try it. Just suggested Olive Garden because I knew it had a private room.

    November 18

  • Karen K.

Goin Coastal has a private room and is an independent business in downtown Canton.
Should we see about meeting here?

We live in Canton and would love to meet close by.
As far as a meeting place...
Let's try not to make it with a Trump supporting corporation that treats it's employees poorly by exploitation or denying raising the minimum wage.
If we have to do this with our first meeting, so be it, but moving forward perhaps we can support a local independent business that is like minded.

  • Charles G.

I live in Canton (Sweetwater Creek area) and would be happy to host the initial meeting. However, because of limited parking, we'd have to limit the number of attendees to 12-15. I can do 'wine and cheese' and uh, celery sticks. Is meeting in a private home allowed? discouraged? Any rules at all about that?

    November 18

    • Sally

Hey, Charles. Thank you so much for the offer, but since I'm not sure how many people will be coming let's stick with a public venue for now.

      November 18

  • Sally

Hi, all. Thank you so much for your feedback. For now, let's plan on meeting 6:30 p.m. in Canton for the first meeting. I will look into one of the places suggested and post the location ASAP.

    November 18

  • Kerry J.

I'm in Canton and flexible where a meeting location is concerned, but somewhere a little further north than Roswell is preferred, especially considering the proposed meeting time.

    November 18

  • Mary Ann C.

Woodstock is OK as long as it isn't the part of Woodstock down by Roswell. The whole idea was to address the underserved north Metro. I don't care about time as long as it isn't peak traffic. It takes 30 minutes to get down to Trickum normally, almost an hour in peak traffic.

    November 17

  • Sally

I'm in Woodstock. Is that out of range? Also, re times, any preferences? I can look into the olive garden in Canton in the meantime.

    November 17

  • Mary Ann C.

I tried Googling "restaurants with private rooms in Canton" and it turned up a number of places, including Olive Garden, which I mentioned earlier. When we start to grow, we might have to find a bigger room, but it would do as a start. I have been to the Dems meeting at IHOP, and it is good, too, but I don't know if they serve alcohol.

    November 17

  • Mary Ann C.

I was a newcomer here a year ago and found the area completely baffling, so I understand. Guston's is noisy and not that much farther north. The gentleman that started this talked about Canton and Cumming, which are in the area unserved for liberals, as is all of Acworth and the whole northern Hwy 41 area. Cumming is a little far for me, but I would go there. Canton would be convenient to more people. Besides location, it should be quiet enough for conversation. Thanks for taking this on, Sally!

    November 17

  • Charles G.

Cherokee County Dems meet at Guston's Grill in Woodstock and IHOP in Canton so I guess those are possibilities.

    November 17

  • Sally

Canton is fine by me. Just trying to get the ball rolling and as a newcomer to ATL thought Roswell was a good choice but I am not against meeting elsewhere or at another time if traffic is an issue.

    November 17

  • Lynne N.

My husband and I would like to attend, but I agree Roswell is a bit out of the way for most of us. We're in Cumming; I don't know about everyone else. We're definitely interested.

    November 17

  • Mary Ann C.

Is Roswell really central to the people who have responded to you? That's not north Georgia! Roswell has lots of liberal action. We need something farther north! I'm available, but I really don't want to drive to Roswell for yet another group. I went to a meeting recently in Canton. The restaurant had a nice private room where we could hear each other. I think it was this Olive Garden: http://www.olivegarden.com/locations/ga/canton/canton/1798
