You think it can never happen to you... you're a small business, why would hackers target YOUR little website? Well, they can and they will - it's only a matter of time.

Much of today's hacking activity is automated and targeted to just about every website on the internet. If a human can access your website, then automated hacking software can, too. And it's not as easy as you might think to recover from. Lost files, content, images... even search engine rankings. The list of potential damages from a hack is LONG.

In this session, you'll learn (in advance) from the mistakes of others about the things you need to be doing to ensure that this doesn't happen to you. From selecting good hosting and maintenance plans, to choosing secure plugins, our veteran hack-cleaner and WordPress developer Pete Verrone will share his clients' "horror stories" so that you won't become a victim yourself.

Doors open at 6:30pm, presentation starts at 7pm.

We meet in the Pam Ann Marketing offices, which are directly upstairs from the Second Half on Main restaurant. Free parking is available in the back of the building, and there is a metered lot nearby should the back lot fill up. Pay attention to rules on signs if parking on the street.

We'll provide some pizza and you're free to bring your own drinks (regular or adult beverages.) This is a FREE event although we will accept donations towards the pizza.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: This meetup sticks very closely to the guidelines set out by WordPress for such Meetups. To that end we'll be adhering specifically to this statement:

WordPress Meetups are welcoming places where everyone works to foster an accepting environment which is free of discrimination, incitement to violence, promotion of hate, and general jerk-like behavior.
