DINNER & YANKEE SWAP ~ DOCKSIDE RESTAURANT, WAKEFIELD, MA

Hello ladies:

DINNER AND YANKEE SWAP :)

We have had a fantastic time the lasts two years and YANKEE SWAPS have become our yearly tradition!

The holidays are around the corner :) I have made reservations for our holiday YANKEE SWAP~!

WHEN: SATURDAY December 8, 20121

WHERE: Dockside Restauran, 1099 Main St., Wakefield, MA

TIME: 6:00 P.M.

GIFT VALUE: $20.00

We all will have a bill to settle based on drinks/buffet/tip, at the end of event.

Not familiar with a YANKEE SWAP ~

In Yankee Swap each participant brings a wrapped gift, marked with who gave it (thank you to our member that suggested this....last years gifts were fantastic :) and places it in a designated area. Guests are given numbers as they arrive, or their names are randomly drawn, and they select and unwrap gifts from the pile in that order — with a twist.

The person who receives the number 1 will pick a gift (that is not their own) from the pile and open it for all to see (or models it, reads it, or demos it). During the selection of a wrapped gift, the participant may visually inspect the gifts, pick them up and/or gently shake them.

The person who receives number 2 then chooses a gift and opens it, and then must decide whether to keep it or swap it for the first player’s gift. Each person in order then gets to select a present, open it and decide whether to keep it or swap it for any other gift someone has already opened.

Opening of gifts and swapping takes place until all the presents have been chosen. Finally, the person who picked first gets to choose from all the gifts or keep what he/she has already received. In the end, the gift you are holding is the gift you take home.

It was really funny that the number 2 was picked for the wild card, because usually number 2 is the least favorable number to draw! And it turned out to be the best - enjoy the Lady Godiva!

right now more of a guestimate but meal s/b about $12-15 per person, tax and tip included. Sorry I cannot give you an exact amount until that night.
    Cocktails not included

    • Pat D.

That is fine, thanks. Cheap night, I love it!! lol!

      December 5, 2012

    • Roberta

      Sounds good!!!!

      December 5, 2012

  • Sue

Lynne, Love the idea of group swap afterwards .....if you get something you don't really need, maybe someone else will swap with you :)

    December 5, 2012

    • Lynne

Yup we do that all the time at work. Number 1 chooses at the end. Then we put all the numbers back in, and pull a wildcard. So number 1 is not the last. Wildcard is the last.

      December 5, 2012

  • Sue

We will be eating promptly at 6:15....hoping to start swap at 7pm. We will try to keep the yankee swap going smoothly and as quick as possible. I think we will have a chair for on deck, next number up, near the gifts so that they can eye ball the gifts and have one picked when it's their turn. (Most of the time is waiting for them to get from where they are seated and then pick a gift, this will eliminate 1/2 the waiting time and move things along quicker:) I am thinking swap 2 hrs. Evening s/b done close to 9-9:30
    This is a guestimate

    December 5, 2012

  • Lynne

Thanks Sue. You have a lot of patience! For whoever asked, not two nights. It might work to break the yankee swap into two groups 1-25 and 1-25. 1-50 will take alot longer. At our yankee swap, we usually put the gifts from Santa. I put gift receipts on my gift so it can be returned. At the end, anyone can swap by mutual agreement! The buffet sounds terrific. Thanks SUE!

    December 5, 2012

  • Valerie

Sue, how long does this event tend to run approximately? I'll be renting a Zipcar so I'm trying to book the car for the right length of time.

The estimated buffet price pp is cheap! :)

    December 5, 2012

  • Sue

MEAL WILL BE SERVED PROMPTLY AT 6:15, THIS WILL ALLOW US PLENTY OF YANKEE SWAP TIME AFTERWARDS!

    December 5, 2012

  • Sue

Thanks ladies and Betsey....I just reread her note below....this meetup is to get together and have fun :) thank you all for you wonderful notes, appreciated.....I have been home sick in bed for almost a week and just trying to get final touches complete for a wonderful evening....look forward to seeing you all !

Buffet sounds yummy and looking forward to my first Yankee Swap with this group. Should be a lot of fun! Thanks for all of your work organizing this, Sue.

    December 5, 2012

  • Debbi

Buffet sounds like a great idea and should make it easier. Thanks for organizing, Sue!

    December 5, 2012

  • janice

The buffet is a great idea! it would have taken forever to order 50 meals - our night would have been spent eating instead of socializing and swapping! thanks for all your hard work - looking forward to another great meetup!

    December 5, 2012

  • Sue

    Thank you Jody, appreciated :)

    December 5, 2012

  • Sue

I am meeting with restaurant shortly will post an approx cost once I return.
sorry we had to go this route, ladies but....I tried to accomodate everyone that wanted to attend this popular event. Typically restaurants with groups of 50 do not let you order off of menu. The food here is very good and we tried to pick a menu with something for everyone.

    1 · December 5, 2012

  • Sue

Ladies with a group of 50 attending we can not order off the menu. We are going to have a buffet style meal. Here is what we are having
Bread & Butter, Garden Salad, sweet italian sausage, eggplant parm, chicken stir fry, baked ziti.

    December 5, 2012

  • Sue

    $20.00 for yankee swap gift
