The weather will be getting warmer, and we just need an excuse to check out the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's newly established inland Paddling Trails! This paddling trail is 5 miles out and back along the shore of Joe Pool Lake and up Walnut Creek.
Admission to the park is $10 per carload. This park is clean and well maintained. $10 gets you access to two swim beaches, covered picnic tables, trails, and more. The park also offers overnight camping starting at $20 per site.

Joe Pool Lake and Walnut Creek Paddling Trail
Here's a map of the paddling trail. It's approximately 5 miles from Loyd Park to the 360 bridge and back.
It's a good paddle for beginners and intermediate experience levels.
Get more information on the paddling trail by visiting the TPWD website. (http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/boat/paddlingtrails/inland/grandprairie_walnutcreek/)
Kayak and Canoe Rentals
First, I might suggest asking others here on the NTO site if they have extra kayaks or have room in their canoe. Second, kayak and canoe rentals are available from outfitters around DFW. However, rentals are not offered at Loyd Park.
Check out this list of kayak and canoe rentals around DFW. (http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/boat/paddlingtrails/inland/grandprairie_walnutcreek/)
Post Paddle Cookout
After we're done out on the lake, I'll host a simple cookout with chips, hot dogs, and sodas at one of the picnic sites at Loyd Park.
