- Red Squirrels, Hawes DL8 3NT
The Snaizeholme red squirrel viewing area lies in the heart of the Widdale red squirrel reserve. Coniferous woodland is ideal habitat for red squirrels however they can be difficult to see in such densely planted woodland. The Snaizeholme viewpoint and surrounding woodland offer an excellent chance of getting superb views of red squirrels as they visit a feeder in a woodland clearing, with luck you may also see Roe Deer along with a variety of woodland birds such as Siskin, Lesser Redpoll and even perhaps even the Common Crossbill. This can be a 2.5 mile circular walk but there is a steep climb out of the dale, so a walking stick and boots maybe required

- Royal Connections, opportunity to join a group shoot at York Photo Studio
This is an event I'm organising at York Photo Studio that Simon has kindly allowed me to offer to NYS members and I just thought it might be of interest for some of you - agreat opportunity for a different shoot experience! Group shoots are a great way to start if you're not sure of yourself as you work together with other photographers. *************************************** IF YOU ARE INTERESTED PLEASE MESSAGE ME ASAP TO SECURE YOUR PLACE AS THIS EVENT IS ALSO ON SALE ELSWHERE. FIRST COME FIRST SERVED! ********************************************** This is the blurb for the shoot from the advert on my facebook page: "Here's a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the wonder of the 15th century and shoot a knight - a real one! - and his fair maiden at York Photo Studio. The lovely Kevin (owner) and myself will be at your beck and call, acting as your lowly serfs (well sort of, we might make you a cuppa and look after your longbow.) The costume is a replica of the suit worn by Thomas Duke Of Clarence in 1415. He was the second son of Henry IV and brother to Henry V (denoted by the white pattern on his chest) and this very suit was used for filming a re-enactment of Agincourt last year in Normandy. His wife was Margaret Holland but this might not be his wife...…………….. There are three group shoots left for the saturday morning and one remaining one hour afternoon slot, so first come first served. Weather permitting we will do a location shoot possibly on York City Walls (probably leave the swords at home...) Cost for the 3 hour group session: £70 to include studio time, manager, use of all studio lights/props, models and costume. For the 1-2-1 hour, [masked]) £75 to include studio time, manager, use of all studio lights/props, models and costume." Faith (who some of you will know) is our maiden and a professional model Jake Freeman who is on facebook is our knightly Lord.
- Viking encampment, Yorvik Viking Festival York
https://yorkshirewonders.co.uk/jorvik-viking-festival Having lived in Yorkshire all these years and never having attended the Viking festival I thought it might be time to go! We'll wander down to the viking encampment on Parliament Street where you can " join the hustle and bustle of Viking life at a special living history experience, right in the centre of the modern city. Discover how the Norsemen and women of the period lived, what they traded and what they wore. This is your chance to get up close and personal with the Vikings; ask them questions, pose for selfies and hear a saga or two from these fierce warriors turned traders" There's also the main stage in Sampson Square where there will be demonstrations and competitions, combat displays and so forth. Both of these events are free and fun from 10-4 so plenty of time to grab some photos. There are several park and ride routes into York so check out nearest one https://www.itravelyork.info/park-and-ride/ I am going to use the Poppleton Park and Ride so will be at Poppleton Bar at 9.45am with a view to catching a bus into York around 10am or so. ( If you want to meet me there please let me know below.) Otherwise we can meet outside the Disney Store in York at 10.30 ready to do battle.
- Braving the studio and out of the cold!
Happy New Year! As it's a bit nippy to be photographing outside, we thought we'd do an event in a nice cosy studio. The studio is located just north of Otley on Newall Carr Rd, Newall With Clifton LS21 2EY, follow the road north about a mile of so out of Otley and it's on your left hand side near the top of the hill, just before The Roebuck pub. We'll spend a couple of hours demystifying studio lighting and a little bit about posing. I'll show you how to make a grey background black or white, how to add depth and separation to your image and where to put the pesky lights. Those of your who came to Wharram Percy will already know Faith our model for the day and how easy she is to work with. I'll bring some outfits for her to wear and we'll see what we can create on the day! Because I've hired the hall and our model, there's a charge accordingly of £9 pp which we'll need from you before the end of January to confirm your place. Simon will be in touch with you once you book to arrange this payment. All you need is your camera but it will need to be able to take a trigger for the lights - and it doesn't matter if you don't have the first clue about any of this. You can still come even without your camera so don't worry if you don't have a suitable camera. If it proves popular then it's something we can do again and build on if people are interested.....
