  • Scarborough Mere

    Needs a location

Many thanks to Iain for suggesting this meetup and helping to run it - he's happy to offer wildlife and photography tips to those in need and has kindly offered to post some of his photo from there to show you what it's like.... He says: "I think there will be signets out by the 2nd, they have a 6 week incubation period and I think that some of the swans have been sitting on eggs for a couple of weeks now, always difficult to tell. There's plenty of goslings at the moment and I'd imagine there will be more to come over the next few weeks, no ducklings yet. At Scarborough Mere there's a cafe that opens at 10 and it has a covered bit if its raining. The mere is surrounded by trees so there's cover there as well if it's bad weather. There's plenty of water birds and lots of other bird life in the trees, occasionally there's something a bit unusual if you're lucky. It's a good place to practice wildlife photography as most of the wildlife is semi acclimatised to humans. There's a couple of resident kingfishers but you don't see them very often" We will meet at 9 although Iain and I may well be there earlier. You could always take a picnic and make a day of it......

  • Appleby Horse Fair

  • Red Squirrels, Hawes DL8 3NT

    Yorkshire Dales national park

The Snaizeholme red squirrel viewing area lies in the heart of the Widdale red squirrel reserve. Coniferous woodland is ideal habitat for red squirrels however they can be difficult to see in such densely planted woodland. The Snaizeholme viewpoint and surrounding woodland offer an excellent chance of getting superb views of red squirrels as they visit a feeder in a woodland clearing, with luck you may also see Roe Deer along with a variety of woodland birds such as Siskin, Lesser Redpoll and even perhaps even the Common Crossbill. This can be a 2.5 mile circular walk but there is a steep climb out of the dale, so a walking stick and boots maybe required
