Hurstwic Heathen Study Group...

  • Hurstwic

45 River Street, Unit 1B, Millbury, MA (map)

    42.192749 -71.765549

  • Our next meeting will be 6:15 on Monday, December 5 in the Hurstwic Valhalla training room in Millbury, MA. Emily Randall will present Home for the (Heathen) Holidays.

Not so long ago, Santa was a billy goat and Lucia was a bride. The popular symbols of an old-fashioned Nordic Yule point directly to the heathen past, kept alive in folk customs and curious imagery. We'll look at the deep history of three winter celebrations and perhaps draw some inspiration for our own.

Contact information and directions are here.

We welcome you to join us. If our voyage to discover the ancient ways of the Viking-age people interests you, please come join us on our journey.

We extend an invitation to scholars and students in other groups in the area to consider presenting at a future session. We're eager to have a range of viewpoints in this study group.

For more information about Hurstwic, please look at our introductory YouTube video, and browse our webpage, and our extensive collection of articles on Viking-age topics.
