4 stages of Americana music for 3 days! Mostly folkish, bluegrassy, as well as some soul, R and B, pop... it's varies a little every year. This year's lineup includes John Prine, Greg, Brown, Taj Mahal, Alice DiMicele, Irma Thomas, Poor Man's Whiskey, Brothers Comatose to name a few. With 4 stages it's often hard to choose who to listen to. Nights are fun with a campfire sing along by the river and jamming at many campsites. It takes place in Laytonville- Mendocino County on 150 acres. There is a good choice of prepared food at the food booths as well as beer and wine to buy. Some is organic. Mostly healthy. Or bring your own of course. There is a river on the property- not much of a swim river but deep enough to paddle around in. This is Wavy Gravy's property and his brief stage appearances are a joy throughout the festival.
This is such a relaxing, fun weekend. I've been to about 5 of them. Come have fun!
MORE LOGISTICS: Camping is first come first serve. There is a tent only area (must park your car outside that area) and there's the car/RV area where you can set up your tent next to your vehicle if you like. If you like a more quiet night your best bet is the parking area, farthest from the stage and tent area. If you want to be where people will be jamming at night you'll want the tent area and the parking area closest to the tents and stages. There are only porta potties but they are well maintained. There are free solar showers. Not much running water so best to bring your own drinking water. It's usually hot during the day and cold at night so prepare for both.
HOW TO MEET: I will set up a red sheet with a meetup sign toward the left side of the main stage daily. That can be a meeting place for people to set up their own chairs or sheets and wander to and from throughout the day and eve. (I won't be an early riser- some people line up at 0700 to get front row spots. As with most festivals- any empty seat is open to sit on until the owner comes back). The distance from the stage will probably vary but generally it will probably be a little farther back than the big oak tree in the middle of the grassy area. I plan to get there Friday about 1:00. I will park in the car/RV area as close to the main stage and tent area as I can get. I'll have an old blue-green Nissan Quest van with windsurf stickers on the back and will post a meetup sign on the front and back windshield as well as a red cloth flag on the antenna. There is some cell phone service at this location and I can try to post information on the meetup site from the festival but I can't promise it will work - I haven't tried it. It may not be necessary.
I will try to post this on several meetups. I think this type of event is best when there are enough people to mingle with that you can always find someone to wander to another stage with if you want or hang out with if you want. The more the merrier at this type of event. See you there!
