Newbie Hike at Stokes Landing!

Lets Hike Stokes Landing Conservation Area! This is an excellent entry level hike, perfect for those with little or no hiking experience. This hike features beautiful old oaks, a variety of wildlife and several opportunities to view the Tolomato River. Property has a picnic area and an observation tower. This property is an easy drive from Jacksonville and St. Augustine.

Note: This is strictly a first-timers only event. This hike is open to those who have NOT hiked with the Trailblazers at a prior activity. If your prior attendance is strictly limited to indoor chapter meetings or work hikes you may attend, but this hike is CLOSED to prior Trailblazers recreational hikers. If you are not sure if you qualify for this event, feel free to contact me. RSVP’s will be limited to 20 people.

Lets meet at the Stokes Landing Preserve parking area at 10:00 am, Saturday March 9th. I may postpone or cancel this event due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

GETTING THERE: Note that the "address" indicated above is not accurate. Parking area is near the end of “Lakeshore Dr., St. Augustine, fl, 32095” Best bet is to mapquest that from your location. Basically, you take US1 south from Jacksonville; Make a left onto Venetian Blvd., (A British Pub w/double-decker bus is on the corner); Follow Venetian as it curves slightly to the left and make a right on Old Dixie; Drive a short distance and make a left on Lakeshore Dr.; Drive almost to the end of Lakeshore and the parking area for Stokes Landing will be on the Right. There is a large sign and you will see our vehicles. If you are not familiar with this location, I would recommend aiming to get there about 20 minutes early.

If you have GPS, enter the following coordinates: LAT[masked]
LONG [masked]

This is an entry level hike open to adults and children in good physical condition. Wear shoes suitable for walking long distances (Walking/tennis shoes should be acceptable). Bring 2 bottles of water, snacks, bug spray, and sunscreen. Note that this property has no “facilities”, so unless you are comfortable using the woods I recommend you hit the restroom on the way over. All children (minors under 18) must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian for the duration. Parents should use good judgment when deciding if their child should accompany them on any activity.

If you have any health issues, you may want to indicate that on a 3x5 card and place in a conspicuous location in your pack. Include an emergency contact #. You may want to discuss any relevant health information with the Leader prior to the activity. The activity leader(s) will keep your health information confidential.

Stokes Landing Conservation Area is owned and maintained by the St. Johns Water Management district. Property website:
