FTA Member, Activity Leader

Member since:

September 6, 2008

Are you a current member of The Florida Trail Association? If not, please consider joining and supporting our organization. Some of our events will be offered only to FTA members.

I first joined the Florida Trail Association (FTA) when I lived in Pensacola in the 1990s and I've been a member ever since.

Please tell us a bit about your level of hiking experience. Are you capable of walking five or more miles at a moderate pace without assistance?

Have hiked sections of the Florida Trail in the north part of the state, but not much down south. Am familiar with the AT in western North Carolina.

The Mission of the Florida Trail Association is to provide opportunities to hike, engage in the outdoors and participate in environmental education and contribute to volunteer work in a safe and fun environment- are you able to follow this Mission?

Do you understand that our group's purpose is to organize hiking events & promote hiking, and it is not a social networking or dating group?

The FTA is a great organization and provides many opportunities to hike in Florida. I encourage all Meetup members to log onto and browse around the state website. There is lots of information about camping/hiking/backpacking.

Are you willing to RSVP? The group leader needs to know if you are coming or not.

My first backpack trip was with the Pensacola chapter on Cumberland Island. I'm only a 2-nighter, but one of these days I want to do 5 days. Florida Trail folks are very willing to talk about their backpacking tips and gadgets.

Yes, you can hike in Florida! The North Florida Trailblazers, a chapter of the Florida Trail Association, can show you where and how.
