Hike at Squire's Castle

Sorry, but with the warmer weather + rain, snowshoeing will not be possible. Rain is predicted; soggy hiking anyone?

Cleveland Metroparks will be offering snowshoe rentals on this day from 11 until 2:00, IF the snow is 4" deep. Staff will give some basic snowshoeing tips before we head out to the practice trail on our own. No pre-registration is required. Rental fee: $15/pair. CASH ONLY

Print and bring completed waiver if you can: http://www.clevelandmetroparks.com/Main/EventsProgramsCalendar/Snowshoe-Rentals-2368.aspx.

No special boots are required, but waterproof footwear is suggested. Layer your clothing because it will be a workout, sure to heat you up!

If the snow is not deep enough, this will be a winter hike.

This hike proved a point I often make when people thank me for an event I organized: It's the people who participate who really make or break it. Knowing the probable conditions of the trails, I had great trepidation about this hike. With a negative attitude, it could have been a disaster. But you all turned it into a FUN adventure! Thanks!!

And times like this are the ones we'll remember the most.

My only complaint is there was not enough ice ;)

It was a really nice hike. Thanks Linda for organizing it.

Sorry I was on the highway coming from the west side and turned around since I assumed it was cancelled. Darn, should have kept driving. See you all next time

Is there an alternate plan if it is raining?

    January 10, 2014

    • Lynda

Well, I'll be bringing a rain jacket... If you have some other ideas, we're open to suggestions!

I have received definite confirmation from the Metroparks: There will be no snowshoe rentals this Saturday. If we get a break in the rain (ugh), I still plan to hike. We will try again for Squire's Castle snowshoe rentals in 2 weeks!

It is sounding like BOOTS only for me....but i'll be there. Warmer temps and fresh air will still be good.

90% chance of AM rain tomorrow so I will wait until another snowfall to get the snowshoes out

Linda, just to be sure before I would decide to go, just boots are okay, if we don't want to rent?

    January 9, 2014

    • Lynda

      Yes, boots are fine.

I'm all into hiking. But what does snow shoe mean, something special?

Would have loved to have tried this but have a previous engagement.

I have tried snowshoes couple of times. It should be a great time. Kind of wishing it were today. Definitely would have been brisk today! Snow would have been light.

Approximately how many miles will we be snowshoeing/hiking

    January 5, 2014

    • Lynda

Angie: for this event, I don't have a set plan. CMP will have a marked trail(s) for snowshoeing, probably with at least 2 distance options. So it will be up to the individual--depending on how fast we tire out.
I always hate trying to estimate, but let's say 3-5 miles... The more snow there is, the shorter the distance :-)

Will it be $15 for the enitire time, or an hour?

    January 4, 2014

    • Lynda

$15 total. And I forgot to mention, they can only accept cash.
