Holiday Cookout and Hike

Let's wrap up the holiday weekend with a cookout!  I've reserved the Twin Ponds Shelter at Chapin Forest for the day.  We will have a hike at 3:00 that will last about one and a half or 2 hours.  Then we'll gather at the shelter for a cookout/potluck picnic.  Please bring a dish to share.  Post in the Comments section what you will be bringing.  Sarah is bringing hotdogs and some veggie burgers and James is going to serve as grillmaster. I will help split the cost if anyone can bring hamburgers/buns/condiments?

There is a volleyball court and playground equipment.  The shelterhouse has a fireplace.  Dick is bringing cornhole and ladder golf and James is bringing a volleyball.  We'll hang out, enjoy the evening, play some volleyball, build a fire, and possibly go for an optional hike to the scenic overlook to watch the sunset.  Alcohol is prohibited in Lake County metroparks.  Dogs and children are welcome!  This is meant to be a fun family afternoon/evening so please join us for an end-of-the-summer party.

Had a great time at the cookout! ...Food was great, and definitely enjoyed the hike, the yard games, and the fierce volleyball match! I also breathed easier when I got home and after meticulously searching, guess what was hiding in my quadcopter case!. Speaking of quadopters, be sure to check out the arial photos!

Besides the charcoal, volleyball, and being the grill guy - I will also bring two and half gallons of water, and my jet boil stove that produces hot water in 2 min, so if someone wants hot tea or instant coffee we will have the capability. Having said that, maybe someone can bring insulated cups, instant coffee and/tea, etc.

    Hi Brad,
I'll bring a volleyball. I will work for beer or be the grill guy. I assume that the park has grills, so we need some people to donate charcoal, right?

    Hey Brad,

I am stuck working the indians game. It does not start until 4:05. We have the new metal detectors, and our Security coordinator wants everyone to be trained. He is letting alot of us leave early. I am probably lookimg at 7, 7:30, or 8:00. I hope everyone will still be there.

    1 · August 26, 2014

    • Brad

Laureen, I would expect to be there until 9 or so but it just all depends on the group. Last time a few of us stayed until 10, but it's getting dark earlier now so it's hard to say.
