Mushroom Growing: Log & Wood Chip Culture

  • Jun 30, 2013 · 3:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Join Ben Campelia of Pawtuckaway Mushroom Company to learn how to grow your own mushrooms!

Up front where you can't miss it!: *The cost for this workshop is on a sliding scale of $15-25. Because of the materials Ben is purchasing ahead of time for this workshop, we are asking for a deposit of $10 to secure your spot in this class by June 1. Please make it out to Ben Campelia and send it to me: Amy Antonucci, 219 France Rd, Barrington NH 03825*

Now the details:

We'll do log inoculation - you'll bring home a log of your own - then do a wood chip patch in the garden so you can learn to do that for yourself!

Ben will discuss the life cycle of a mushroom, how to grow edible mushrooms in a variety of mediums and the materials and equipment required to do so.

Each person will have the opportunity to inoculate a mushroom log with Oyster Mushrooms. You can take your log home and harvest fresh mushrooms from it after about a year, in proper conditions.

This is a hands-on workshop, so dress appropriately. Also, if you have an extra drill and a 5/16" drill bit, please bring one. Otherwise, all materials will be provided (logs, equipment to share, mushroom spawn, wax & brushes).

The class runs from 3-5pm then we invite you to join us for a potluck - you are encouraged to bring mushroom based food options!!

Ben Campelia is a member of the Greater Seacoast Permaculture Group, and co-owner of The Pawtuckaway Mushroom Company in Deerfield NH which he is getting re-started after a stint with Americorps. Previously, they grew Oyster mushrooms to sell at farmers markets, stores and restaurants, and also sold Oyster mushroom kits to enable people to grow their own mushrooms at home.

Lovely to have Amy do cross postings from the Seacoast Permaculture meetup. They have a very active group with many skill based workshops. Check them out.

There is actually a spot open for this now, if you are able to come this Sunday!

Is there a reason why this class is only open to five people?

Hi Cassandra, I divided up spots between the Seacoast group and this group... usually more sign up through seacoast so I opened more spots there. Both have filled up, though as the payment deadline approaches, I expect there will be some changes!
