Ebey's Landing, Spring Hike on Whidbey Island

LENGTH: 5.6 miles

ELEVATION GAIN: 260 feet (high bluffs in one section)

Easy: difficulty rating from  http://www.nwhiker.com/HikeEval.html

Ferry Info: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/

Carpools will need to be on the 9:00 am Mukilteo ferry. It is a 40 min. drive to the Prairie Overlook; see directions below. If you want to walk on, be sure to arrive early to park, get your ferry ticket, and walk on before the ferry leaves at 9:00 am. Once you walk off, pre-arranged rides from Whidbey members will be waiting to meet you at the Clinton Ferry dock. We will start this hike at 10:15 am to allow time to drive to the Prairie Overlook. We will stop after the hike to grab a bite to eat.

Parking and ferry fare information: Lighthouse Park Location: 609 Front Street, Mukilteo. There is a four hour limit, but I have never had anyone experience any issues of having their car towed yet. There is also parking at the Sounders train station in Mukilteo. Address 920 First St., Mukilteo Directions: Turn right on Front Street, and take the next right on Park Ave. and a left on 1st street. You could also meet at a park and ride and carpool to the ferry if you are concerned. Plan to arrive early to park and buy your ferry ticket. You can walk up the hill to the ticket booth if the window at the terminal is closed, or buy inside the terminal at a kiosk. There is no ferry fare for returning walk on passengers from Clinton, but there is a car and driver fare. Let me know if there are any other questions. If you would like my phone number you can email me a private message.

I will see you also - I looked at pics of the parking lot and it is very large - they probably do not keep track of all those cars. (I hope).

    A website says
    Parking
There is very limited parking available near the Mukilteo Terminal. There is no overnight parking and only limited four-hour street parking.

So how can we do this if we are not planning to drive on? This trip will be longer than 4 hours.

William, maybe I can carpool up to the ferry with you since you are driving on?

Or doe someone have good information about parking at the Mukilteo side?

    May 15, 2014

    • Jenny K

So we can park there even if not using the park?

It looks like there is a chance of rain on Sunday, but this hike is nice anytime. Bring your rain gear.

For everyone that will be walking on the ferry, there is lots of parking in the light house parking lot. When you drive down to Mukilteo, don't get in the ferry lanes, stay to the left. At the bottom of hill, right before the ferry dock, turn left and left again into the light house parking lot.

I would like to walk on the ferry if someone can fit me in their car. Does anyone have room?

So sad that I have to cancel as this has been my favorite hike for the past two years. I sprained my foot and it just isn't healing fast enough to take on a hike like that yet. Enjoy! And I hope to see you all on other hikes this summer.
