Walk in the Vale of Belvoir at Denton Wharf

This walk first visits Denton Reservoir, then the picturesque villages of Denton and Harlaxton,  and back along the Grantham Canal.

The distance is 7 miles and includes towpaths, fields, quiet lanes and one steep climb.

Directions:

Denton Wharf Picnic Area - From the A52 towards Grantham you enter Sedgebrook, take the next right signposted for Denton (the road is called Casthorpe Road but there is no sign at this end). Proceed for about 2 miles going straight on at the junction for Casthorpe and Barrowby, then straight over a bridge with the canal running underneath.

You are now looking for an unmarked, unmade road on your left. There is a hedge running along the right of it and a field to the left. (If you arrive at a road with a bar/gate you have gone too far) Go down the unmade road and you have arrived with a small car park. There are some posts which you could use to secure your bike. If there is no parking here go back to the bridge where there is further parking by the side of the road and then walk along the canal to the start point. From Denton village it is about 1 mile along Casthorpe Road on the right.

There are no places for refreshments so please bring your own.

Dogs are welcome.

It will be too much hassle to get to for me, I'm sorry. I will meet you all soon though. I'll find an event to go to that's a bit nearer! :o)

Hi Eliot, I've only just seen all this conversation, I've been away. I'm driving from Nottingham & have one space. Do you want a lift?

Seems like a good day out.:) I will look forward to it. Need to know exactly where to meet and which bus to catch...

Eliot, you'll have difficulty finding a bus to Denton from Nottingham. There may be a bus from Bingham... I'll leave you to google the info. But it will take 2 buses from Nottingham I expect...first one to Bingham.

Jane I made a minor amendment to the location. When you know the name of the road where the picnic area is we can change the postcode to the correct one. In the meantime at we're in the right village :)

Hi Jane, your map is pretty well off may I suggest you delete it and use google Denton NG32, this shows the reservoir and the two villages you mention.
