I look forward to discussing Girlfriend in a Coma with many of you Sunday, 11/20. Wyatt will facilitate this discussion, since he knows this book well and loves it. If you don’t have the address of Lynne’s house, email me directly ([address removed]). Feel free to bring snacks to share and a donation towards the MeetUp dues.

Whether or not you can come Sunday, check out this list of contemporary novels that members recommended.  (They recommended about 5 times this many, actually – I just tried to narrow down the list a bit.) If you’ve already read any of these novels and you really hope we choose it, would you be prepared to tell us about it Sunday? If you can’t come Sunday, but you want to lobby for one or more of these titles, send me an email with your persuasive recommendation before noon, and I’ll make sure it gets read to the group.

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close - Jonathan Safran Foer

Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao - Junot Diaz

I am the Messenger – Marcus Zusak

Still Alice – Lisa Genova

Digging to America – Anne Tyler

One Day - David Nicholls

A Mercy – Toni Morrison

Cutting for Stone - Abraham Verghese

The Lacuna - Barbara Kingsolver

I Hotel - Karen Tei Yamashita

Case Histories - Kate Atkinson

Secret History - Donna Tartt

Elegance of the Hedgehog - Muriel Barbery

We’ll select the next two or three novels Sunday, and you can also vote in absentia by emailing me before noon.

Please do your final RSVP by noon so I can print badges.

Our next book is Bel Canto on Dec. 11. How are these dates for the next meetings:  Jan. 15, Feb. 19?

Happy reading,

Joan Price
