Welcome to Null Space Labs! Come by on Tuesday nights for our open meeting. We eat, drink, and hack all the things! Learn about programming, electronics, hardware hacking, lock picking, and more!

The last Tuesday of every month is now mini painting night! What's a mini? A miniature figurine. Think Dungeons & Dragons miniatures, board game miniatures, or just cool looking art miniatures.

This event is BRING YOUR OWN STUFF (BYOS)! NSL does not provide anything besides a workspace for those painting. See below for recommendations on what to buy if you are new to the hobby!

This is the easiest option. The "Reaper Miniatures 08906 Learn To Paint Bones Kit" is $30 and includes 3 minis, brushes, and paints. See https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NTMC49G/

If you don't want the kit, you can buy all the things individually. Keep in mind you may need extra stuff for other types of minis. At the very least get: brushes, paints, and minis.

Brushes: The "#1" brush is the standard size used for mini painting.

Paints: There's lots of mini painting sets out there - the popular brands are Citadel, Vallejo, Army Painter, Game Color, Formula P3, etc. Low quality acrylic paints are OK but they will be harder to work with (TLDR mini paint is "soft body" acrylic, most acrylic paint you buy at the art store is "heavy body").

Minis: There's a lot of options, but start with https://www.miniaturemarket.com/ and http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Bones. We recommend to get a one-piece plastic minis to start with. You can worry about assembling fancy glued together or metal minis once you go pro. Get minis of any type you want!

Extra stuff for non-kit users: For lower quality minis you may need to do some prep work to remove protective coatings and etc before painting. Check if the minis you buy need to be primed before painting (otherwise the paint won't stick). If so, buy an aerosol can of primer and make sure it is designed for plastics (or metal, if you have metal minis).

Some extra things you might want. These are optional

If you're looking for a local place in LA to get minis & related supplies we recommend Knightware in Hollywood. If you want budget painting supplies go to your local Michaels or Blicks.

Where do I park? / How do I get inside?

Parking: There is free street parking on N Ontario St. It is usually easy to find a spot after business hours or on weekends.

Getting inside: Once you park, head down the walkway, we are the long building in the back (see link for overhead directions)
