Piernicola, as Italian teacher, offers a free demonstration, talking in Italian language of intermidiate level, of a lesson of his "ITALIAN ART HISTORY COURSE" (CORSO DI STORIA DELL'ARTE ITALIANA) which he teaches in a private school of Mission Viejo. The course is a wonderful journey into the Italian art to discover the most beautiful monuments of the world, from Roman period to seventeenth century, through the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque.

Teacher's Biography

Piernicola Cocchiaro was born in Offida, province of Ascoli Piceno, Italy, in 1949.

He is an Italian Architect, Fine Art Painter and retired Teacher, moved to California from Italy in 2008.

He lives in Orange County, but continues to have professional connection with his clients in Italy, where he returns for three or four months a year.

As an Architect, he has over 36 years of professional experience ranging from urban planning to interior design, is proficient in the production and development of creative design ideas and in architectural consulting.

As a Painter, he has an artistic experience of 40 years, during which he participated in numerous art exhibitions in Italy and California.

As a President of the Associazione culturale "L'altrArte", every year he designs and manages, as Art Director and Management Director, an important Symposium of sculpture and wall painting called "Scultura Viva" which take place at San benedetto del Tronto, Italy.

In addition, he is the founder of the MAM, the Museum of Art on the Sea of San Benedetto del Tronto, Italy (

Piernicola taught Live Drawing and Visual Education for almost 37 years in several Art High Schools.

He started as an Assistant Teacher in 1969 at Liceo Artistico Statale of Pescara, then again as Assistant, he taught from 1978 to 1983 at Liceo Artistico of Porto San Giorgio and finally, as a Teacher, from 1984 to 2006, at Istituto d'Arte of Ascoli Piceno, where he also teached Italian Art History.

First Section

From Roman art to the Gothic

Byzantine and Romanic Art, Architecture, St. Mark's Basilica in Venice, the Mosaics of Ravenna, Saint Ambrose in Milan, Piazza dei Miracoli in Pisa,the Cathedral of Pisa and the Tower of Pisa.

Gothic Art, Architecture, Church of Santa Croce in Florence, theDoge's Palace in Venice, the Duomo e Piazza del Campo in Siena, etc.. Painting, Cimabue, Giotto. Sculpture, Nicola Pisano.

Second Section

Art of 1.400 and 1.500

Art of the 1400, Architecture, Palazzo Vecchioand the Duomo of Florence, Cathedral of Siena, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Antony of Padua, San Miniato al Montein Florence, etc.. Painting, Piero della Francesca, Botticelli, Andrea Mantegna.Sculpture, Donatello, Botticelli.

Renaissance,Architecture, Brunelleschi, San Lorenzo and Santa Maria Novella in Florence, Basilica of Vicenza, Michelangelo, the St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, etc.. Sculpture, Michelangelo, David, the Pietà, Moses, etc..Painting, Michelangelo, the Sistine Chapel, Leonardo, Last Supper, the Mona Lisa, etc..Raffaello architect and painter.

Third Section

Art of 1.600 and 1.700

The Baroque, Architecture, Bernini, St. Peter's Square in Rome, the Basilica della Salute in Venice, Borromini. Painting, Guido Reni, Caravaggio. Sculpture, Bernini.

The 1700,Architecture, the Trevi Fountainin Rome, Piazza di Spagnain Rome, the Royal Palace of Caserta. Painting, Canaletto, Tiepolo. Sculpture, Antonio Canova.


The course will be in Italian, for the intermediate and advanced students.
