Hey all!
To anyone who is contemplating section hiking the JMT this August I want to remind you that there are multiple options available:
1. Entire trip, about 26 days (slow person stroll), plus acclimatization and travel.
2. A 3 week section.
3. A short 2 week section.
4. And a short 1 week section.
I have posted the detailed trip itinerary  here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-0DpU367mi_WndEekVGbFREdGs/view?usp=sharing.
I post this information now because it's only 5 months out and now is the time for flight and hotel reservations.  The north end of the trail is Yosemite NP and prices get jacked up in the summer.
Silvia and I are headed north out of Cottonwood Trail Head near Lone Pine, Ca on 27 July, where we'll acclimatize for 2 days before heading north.
This has got to be one of the most beautiful areas (if not THE MOST)  in the U.S.!
It is walking friendly, but does require EXTENSIVE PLANNING to get to and from the trail heads.  BEAR CANISTERS are required by the National Park Service, although you won't see any bears.
About 98% of the hiking is above 10,000' and abouit 70% above tree line.
The best part is Silvia and I have the information on logistics.  The only thing we haven't done is mail our food resupply packages.
So, if you are interested, let me know.
cheers!
phil
