Re: [OCBackpackers] Why no trips?

Hey Phil,

To answer your question.... I have been a member of this group and actively following the group's page for a few months now. I have yet to attend any of the OC backpackers trips because they are a lower mileage than I am looking for. By no means am I out in the woods just to log miles, but I am less inclined to attend trips where the total mileage is equivalent to the number of hours spent in the car driving to and from the trailhead. I understand that everyone has their own way and pace of enjoying the great outdoors and I greatly respect the "Hike Your Own Hike" mantra. Furthermore, I encourage that these trips continue to be lead as there are many folks who are either new to backpacking or prefer to not worry about making it to a certain destination by the end of the day. I am sure there is a contingent of folks within the group that feel the same way as me and it is unfortunate that no one has stepped forward to lead more ambitious trips.

Taking notes from another backpacking group that I am in, it would probably be beneficial to also post meetups for local happy hours or socials where folks could meet each other and gauge each others' preferences and interests in backpacking/camping. I have yet to meet any of you in person, so I am a little hesitant to lead a trip because I do not know everyone's abilities and interests. Moreover, I haven't heard anyone voice that they would prefer more ambitious trips.

In the meantime, I will look into planning a trip for this summer for the group.

I hope this message is received well as I am just trying to give my two cents.

Thanks,
Erik

Hey guys,

wondering why we have 600 backpackers and nobody is posting any trips?!

Fourth of July weekend and we've always had a big trip!

Is backpacking dead?
