There are literally thousands of places to research, compare and purchase backpacking gear…provided you have the time and patience to pin down the exact information you’re looking for.

I thought I’d share some links to resources I have used over the years in some form or fashion for every piece of gear I own. Maybe this will save you some of that rare time and patience.

http://www.gorp.com/... -Reviews and ratings for all types of gear + lots of outdoor info.
http://www.backpackin... -Forums and reviews on latest materials and gear.
http://www.spadout.co... -Provides the best pricing from many retailers...all on one site.

Online retailers (safe)

http://www.moosejaw.c... - My favorite- Super great service and they price match exact items.
http://www.backcountr... - Great deals on sale items.
http://www.basegear.c...
http://www.sierratrad... -Not the best selection but always something on sale.
http://www.steepandch... -Every 30 minutes a new item at a killer price.

I would like to encourage you to purchase locally if possible at Blue Ridge Mountain Sports, http://www.brmsstore.... They have been around a looooong time and provide a great amount of support to the hiking community.

If you are new to backpacking (or not) and have questions regarding gear, please feel free to ask. Your organizers have over 50 years of combined backpacking experience. If we don’t know the answer, we know where to find it for you.

Just want to re-emphasis how awesome Blue Ridge is! They provided a ton of support while I was organizing ECH and have recently been informed about the new OCB group and are equally as excited about it as we are. Make sure you remember to mention OCB when you go in!

Wow, these are great resources. I thought i'd throw in a couple for the mix. I also like Backcountry.com, you can search for the biggest discounts. And if you're like me and don't mind using used gear then you should definitely check out geartrade.com. I wouldn't recommend buying used underwear ha ha, but they have tents backpacks and anything else you need, some items around $5. It's worth a look to say the least.
