  • LIVE TRAINING: Introduction to Fraud and Anomaly Detection

    This is a PAID event.

    Registration is required: https://aiplus.odsc.com/courses/live-training-april-13-introduction-to-fraud-and-anomaly-detection

    Date: April 13th at 1 - 5 PM (ET)

    Instructor's bio:
A Teaching Associate Professor in the Institute for Advanced Analytics, Dr. Aric LaBarr is passionate about helping people solve challenges using their data. There he helps design the innovative program to prepare a modern workforce to wisely communicate and handle a data-driven future at the nation's first Master of Science in Analytics degree program. He teaches courses in predictive modeling, forecasting, simulation, financial analytics, and risk management. Previously, he was Director and Senior Scientist at Elder Research, where he mentored and led a team of data scientists and software engineers. As director of the Raleigh, NC office he worked closely with clients and partners to solve problems in the fields of banking, consumer product goods, healthcare, and government. Dr. LaBarr holds a B.S. in economics, as well as a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in statistics — all from NC State University.

    Abstract:
Data is everywhere and its prevalence drives decisions for almost every industry. However, anomalies in data can lead to incorrect or out of date decisions to be made. Whether it is just doing exploratory data analysis and trying to clean your data, monitoring the health of a computer system to make sure things are working properly, or trying to catch fraudulent claims in life insurance, anomaly detection helps detect outliers before they can become too much of a problem for decision makers. This course will examine anomaly detection through the example of fraud, but all of these techniques can be applied to other areas as well. We will start with the importance of feature creation and transformation. We will then cover more statistical based approaches to anomaly detection. Last, we will end with more machine learning based approaches to allow the learner to approach anomalies from any angle and industry need.

    Course Outline
    1. Introduction to Fraud
    2. Data Preparation
    3. Anomaly Models

Which knowledge and skills you should have?
    - Introductory R/Python
    - Basic introduction to decision trees (this isn't required, but helpful for understanding)

  • Vector Similarity Search. How to Get a Competitive Edge Using Vector Indexing?

To access this webinar, please register here: https://app.aiplus.training/courses/what-is-vector-similarity-search-how-to-get-a-competitive-edge-using-vector-indexing

Topic: What is a vector similarity search? How to get a competitive edge using vector indexing?

Speaker: Dr. Xiaomeng Yi, Senior Researcher at Zilliz

    Bio:
Dr. Xiaomeng Yi graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology with a doctoral degree in computer architecture. His main field of research is vector similarity seach algorithms and distributed systems resource scheduling. Dr. Yi's research has been published in respected journals and at top conferences including IEEE Network Magazine, IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, IEEE International Conference on Distributed Computing, and ACM Transactions on Modeling and Performance Evalution of Computing Systems. Prior to joining Zilliz, Yi worked in Huawei's public cloud services division designing and optimizing virtual machine resource scheduling algorithms.

Speaker: Shiyu Chen, Zilliz Data Engineer/Developer Advocate

    Bio:
Shiyu graduated from Xidian University with a bachelor's degree in computer science. Ever since she joined Zilliz, Shiyu has been developing various Milvus solutions and faciliting onboard experience for new users. She is dedicated to the integration of Milvus into different sorts AI applications by guiding first-time users through the deployment of Milvus and helping them unleash the potential of vector similarity search.

    Abstract:
Searching big data is complex. Traditional keyword-based search methods are poorly suited for processing and analyzing unstructured data such as images, text, video, and audio that do not follow a predefined model. Vector similarity search utilizes deep learning methods and ANN (approximate nearest neighbor) algorithms to provide faster, more accurate search capable of processing trillion-scale unstructured datasets. This talk focuses on vector indexing, which plays a major role in accelerating time-consuming queries on large datasets. We will cover how various index types can be used in Milvus, a popular open-source vector similarity search engine, as well as Milvus v1.0 features and future plans for the platform.

We'll start out with the basics -- importing datasets, selecting rows and columns, filtering rows by criteria -- and progress to advanced concepts like grouping values, joining multiple datasets together, and cleaning text. Students will be exposed to diverse data sets across different disciplines -- sports, finance, entertainment, and more. The training is open to all industries and is targeted for beginners --- basic Python knowledge is preferred but not required.

Who will be interested in this course?
This course is geared to data scientists of all levels who wish to gain a deep understanding of Pandas and how to apply it to real-world situations. The ideal participant will have some experience with building models.

Which knowledge and skills you should have?
You should know the Pandas data science toolkit (numpy, scikit-learn, matplotlib) and have experience fitting models on training sets, making predictions on test sets, and evaluating the quality of the model with metrics.
