What we're about

Crafting at home can be kind of lonely, so let's get together to work on our sewing and crafting projects with company and snacks!

We welcome all backgrounds and skill levels! This is simply a meetup group who doesn't want to craft in solitude. If you're a complete beginner, you won't find structured lessons here, but you will find kind people willing to share what they know, and other beginners like yourself! If you're experienced at sewing or other crafts, come to socialize and see what your peers are working on. All are encouraged to come.

We will have one sewing machine to share, but you will need to bring your supplies from home. Donations to support the meetups are gratefully accepted.

Sewing Circle Casual Meetup and Project Session

~~The first-ever meetup of the Oakland Sewing Circle!!! I am very excited to meet you all and form our crafty little community! NOTE: if anyone wants to be a co-host and help organize the OSC, please reach out to me~~ Wednesday nights with the Sewing Circle is our weekly casual meetup to work on your sewing projects, learn or teach something new with your fellow sewers, and most importantly, to chat and make friends! The event will convene weekly in the basement Media Lab at the Omni Commons between 5 and 9pm. Drop in for any amount of time in that window: we would love to see you! **A $5 donation to help cover the event space rental and meetup.com costs is humbly requested, but even if you can't afford to donate, we would love for you to attend** All skill or interest levels are welcome! Don't know how to add a patch to your jeans? We can help! Need assistants to finish your avant-garde couture gowns by runway time? We'd be excited to be a part of that (and learn from you). We will have: -some sewing/patternmaking books you can use in-session -sewing machines and tables available as part of the Media Lab facilities -friendly conversation and knowledge from your fellow sewing enthusiasts -light snacks The host will also bring some (very modest) supplies to share, but to get the most out of your project time, you should bring your own supplies. Can't wait to get sewing with you! OSC Code of Conduct: All genders, orientations, races, ethnicities, and creeds are welcomed and cherished in the Sewing Circle. Any attendees harassing or abusing other attendees will be barred from future events. We're all here to have fun and make stuff; don't be a jerk.
