What we're about

Follow us on Instagram: @mudlaboak for event locations and updates!

We meet up for healthy activities at businesses with sustainable practices and we meet up to run and pick up trash at the lake. It's a lot easier to make a connection with someone when you're meeting them In Real Life ;-).

Anyone interested in supporting sustainable businesses is welcome!

We define sustainability as the following:

1. Staff are paid a living wage.

2. Food and beverage are served in vessels with low environmental impact.

3. The business actively supports vulnerable members of the community.

*OAKLAND SINGLES MEET UP at SUSTAINABLE BUSINESSES ONLY. All Businesses chosen for our Meet-ups are 100% Single-use plastic-free or 100% supportive of reusable containers, pay staff a living wage, and support vulnerable members of the community.

StorySlam + MudLab "Serendipity" Dinner

3933 Telegraph Ave

Serendipity is the occurence of fortunate events by happy accident or unplanned chance. Meeting that special someone, or making a great new friend, could happen through serendipity. It's a lot easier to make a connection when you meet In Real Life, rather than on apps or sites. We're using a potluck dinner as the medium and true storytelling as the form to create connection on a deeper level for one evening. This potluck dinner is intended to bring together outgoing singles who are into creative self-expression and one or more of the following: sustainability, saving the planet, humanitarianism, environmentalism, meaningful connection, mindfulness, and social justice. All ages welcome. Hosted at MudLab, the East Bay's sustainability and zero-waste store. By Vanessa Pope, proprietor of MudLab, and Julie Soller, storyteller and host of StorySlam Oakland. The evening will be organized as follows: meeting and mingling, 6:30-7:00. Dinner, 7:00-7:30. Storytelling and drinks, 7:30-9:00PM. Our theme tonight is Serendipity. You are encouraged to think back and share a story from your life. You'll be inspired by your hosts who will start us off. Then whoever has a story will tell it to the group. Stories should be about 5 minutes or so. We'll take turns telling stories until the evening ends. Ideas for true stories: When did a happy accident occur that changed the course of your life? When did you have one door close, only to have another door open? How did you end up where you are today? When did something lucky befall you that changed your life for the better? Please bring food or drink to share. We will provide utensils and plates. Email Vanessa at [masked] for suggestions on what to bring. buy a ticket using the link below to EVENTBRITE to confirm your spot (you're not confirmed until you've gotten a ticket ;-): https://www.eventbrite.com/e/serendipity-storytelling-potluck-dinner-for-singles-tickets-93225904189
