What we're about

Any level is welcome. We have a pre-jam "topics and techniques" hour. We play the big hits of the 50's 60's 70's YaY! 80's and more. Bob sets the playlist, but is COMPLETELY open to suggestions. We get through maybe 8-9 songs in a session and the time seems to fly by. We try to teach/stumble through the songs together. We have a little bit of percussion w/a cajon, some egg-shakers, and a triangle (and a kazoo I haven't trotted out yet). Links for our songlist (chord-charts) at dropbox as well as tutorials for each jam are announced at Oakland Uke Jam on Facebook, and e-mailed to members of this meetup group. Other questions or any questions are always welcome. Just zap a note to Bob via rcpower at sbcglobal.net.

Saturday Jam -- Barely under control

Sanborn Drive

You'll want: a beach/camp chair; a music stand; Two clips and a rock in case of a breeze; a warm layer in case the fog starts up; sense of humor if a wedding pops up with a boombox....and don't forget your Ukelele! 1:30--2:20 is Topics and Techniques where we review chords, chord changes, strumming patterns, and anything helpful / useful to the group. 2:30--4:40 we actually play the songs...yay.... We'll take a break at 3:30. An Ukulele is almost required,* although, we love singers, and we do have some percussion stuff that you could play with if you forget your uke. Music is provided. And if you see this and have some time, chord-sheets and videos can be accessed via our group page on Facebook: Oakland Uke Jam. *If you do not have a uke, please let us know. We can bring one. ---- We do pass the hat to off-set the price of printed materials; never required, any amount appreciated ----

Ukulele Bootcamp Session II -- STRUMMING

Needs a location

$10.00

This is a meet-up for any players who have attended the Beginning bootcamp where we focused on C, Am, F, and G7, and who can now comfortably move between those four chords/or anyone who is proficient in playing those four chords and who has had a little strumming practice. We'll cover a number of different strumming patterns and some songs that fit well with those patterns. We'll also add a few chords to your repertoire. Anyone is welcome, but the first workshop foundation is necessary or else we fear you'll be lost. Interested? Please 1. RSVP and make payment. 2. Then Bob will zap you a note on location, parking etc. AND 3. Please check your spam folder or social folder or any random folders. Some of these Meetup messages are getting lost. *** If you have a brand-new uke or brand-new strings, PLEASE let me know ahead of time. ***
