  • "Unboxing Objectivism" - A Series of Presentations- #5 - NOV 30, 2017
Old Toad with Dan C. will be offering a new series of live presentations on "Unboxing Objectivism." NOTE: We need a little help with the large conference room rental. $5/person, please. Cash or PayPal. After a decade of discussions in NTOS, we have heard many questions about Ayn Rand’s philosophy and applying it in our daily lives. Most of us do not have the time to methodically work through each issue. Fortunately, with a bit of guidance most of the issues are simple to understand. Old Toad has been working on a book (part time) to help provide such guidance through many such questions. This course will be based on the outline for that work. The course will assume the audience has read at least the following of Ayn Rand’s books: • Atlas Shrugged • Introduction to Objectivist Epistemology. While we will proceed systematically through Ayn Rand’s philosophy, the purpose is not to give a presentation of Objectivism, but to address common questions. We will continue according to the following outline of major sections: • Epistemology: Definitions and Abstractions from Abstractions • Logic: The Art of Non-Contradictory Identification (This Is That) • Nothing: Beware of Reification • Man: Qua Man • Value: To Whom and For What • Standard: Man’s Life • Evaluation: According to a Standard • Etc. Each of the major sections may have one or more sub-sections. Some of the sections will be short, some longer, and some may span two or more events. A short Q&A period will be offered at the end of each event. Each event will be about 90 minutes, including allowance for a Q&A period. We have enough material for at least 30 presentations, subject to continuing interest. We plan to hold these events about ONCE a month on Thursday nights, starting at 6:30 PM. Regular attendance is not required, but preferred. Constructive interest only. Initially, space is limited to 20 people (including OT and Dan C.). If more space becomes desired, we will find a larger venue. Initially, first RSVP, first serve. For later events, if not enough space for all who would like to attend, prior regular attendees would have preference. Serious RSVPs only—no “maybes.” Please be punctual. At least initially, these presentations will be free to NTOS members who can attend. Our “payment” will be your constructive feedback and suggestions. Message me if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you! Old Toad

  • REPEAT: "Unboxing Objectivism" - A Series of Presentations- #3 - Oct 12, 2017
THIS WILL BE A RARE MAKE-UP SESSION OFFERING! This session is intended for those who missed last time due to whatever reason. (Apparently, people have lives.) Space is very limited this time, as we will not be using the large conference room. Please ask at front desk for elevator access to Dan C's office on 15th floor.
