Amanda - Make sure you bring the new boat Wednesday. I'm still not 100% sure I can be there but I'm pretty sure John is and can work with you. If I am there I promise not to be in "Forest" mode and will work with you and Chris on a couple things.

What a great paddle and a perfect day. Also, had fun camping with the goofy guys!!!! I found a blue tarp in my car that isn't mine so let me know if you are missing one.

    September 16, 2013

    • Chris

Yes, I brought the blue tarps just in case we needed them to protect our stuff from poking through the bottom of our tents! You can bring it on Wednesday.

OMG Ryan- I just died laughing!!! The blue tarp doesn't look like the ones you brought Chris- we'll figure out who it belongs to. BTW- I'm scared to death of my new kayak!!!

Great new profile picture Chris. Your boat is the talk of the town.

Great to be with everyone. Our first Erie Island Circumnavigation had so many highlights, from the pregame dinner perpared by Amanda Prescott to our Ryan Pepper being at the head of the paddle class at the end of the 12 miles. The event was well organized with Lake Erie providing the big water for the first 1/3 of the paddle. Bob and Karyn Kaschalk, Amanda, Chris Folsom and I were surprised when we reached the State Park Finish thinking it was a just another card pick-up. One Island down, many more to go.....

We made with time to spare! Congrats to Ryan for beating all the other paddlers around the Island. Good job, Ryan,

It wasn't a race. Just a great day to paddle. Enough waves to keep you on your toes and enough calm water to give you a break. I had a really fun day.

      September 15, 2013

    • Chris

I know it wasn't a race, but it's still cool to know the guy who was the leader of the pack, you!

  • Ryan P.

The people who ran it did a great job. Hats off to them for making it a fun and safe paddle.

I have a friend who lives about 2 miles from the ferry- we can park at his house for free. We can consolidate gear, etc, load boats and leave from there. I could fit 3 yaks on my car as well.

  • Chris

How about a time and an address of where we are to meet on Friday? I think this would be essential information! Just asking!

    1 · September 10, 2013

  • Ryan P.

If anyone hasn't looked at the weather forecast for Friday/Saturday it's going to be cool. 60 degrees for a high and lows in the 40's. Great for sleeping in a tent and Amanda may get more help then usual while cooking. Everyone bring approriate gear for the cooler weather. Winds are predicted to be light on Saturday and no rain. Perfect paddleing weather. Of course this is Ohio and the forecast could change in an hour.

Chris- I'm more concerned with getting you on the road so we can set up camp!!! I'm not big on dessert but maybe you can pick up something beforehand that would keep- that would be great.

    1 · September 7, 2013

    • Chris

Amanda, I'll bring a big container of chocolate chip cookies, BJs has some that are quite good! As for getting on the road, I'll look into taking a half personal day, that should help our situation. I'll let you know how that works out!

Hey- I'll bring and cook dinner at the campsite. I'll bring apps and sides and will be cooking salmon or steaks on the grill. Let me know your entree choice a few days before so I can pack accordingly! Looking forward to a great meet up!

    1 · September 6, 2013

    • Chris

Amanda, wow...what can I say, you are really going to spoil us by offering to cook for us! Steak would be great, but is there something else I could bring?

      September 6, 2013

  • Ryan P.

If anyone wants to park at the ferry parking lot I can pick you and your boat up. My Rack can handle up to 3 boats. Just make sure you have some extra tie downs just in case. We can coordinate times when we get closer to the event.

Ferry is $15.00 there and $15.00 back, $30.00 total plus tax. As for parking I tried to pick a spot where we had the most room. If it's to crowded a couple cars can park up at the boat launch area. It's a 200 yard walk from the camp site. It's off season so it won't be busy except for other kayakers. I'll get there somewhere between 6:00 and 7:00 depending on the ferry. Ferry runs every 1/2 hour from noon to 8:30 and every hour from 7:00 AM to 11:00PM. Bill,Chris, Gerry, Are you camping with us? Just for everyones knowledge the Glacial Grooves are also only a 200 yard walk from our campsite. As for a potluck cookout that's fine with me just don't count on me cooking anything. You won't want to eat it. There are numerous, very good places to eat on the island and I'm sure they'll appreciate the off season bussiness. Downtown is less then a 10 minute drive up Division street and there's an island winery about 10 minutes from the campground.

Thank Ryan- count me in! Maybe we should plan potluck cook out for Friday night. Also, is parking going to be a problem? If so maybe we can coordinate meeting on the mainland so we don't all have to take vehicles over.

I already registered our group for the Poker Paddle - I told the organizer 5 people so nobody else needs to call or send anything in. The donation is for the morning of the event.

Everyone Going - I have reserved campsite #119 at the State campground for a Friday September 13 arrival and a Sunday September 15th Departure (state park requires 2 days on weekends). There's a maximum of 6 adults allowed so I would like a head count on who's camping. I won't be staying Saturday night but everybody else is welcome to. The site is not water front but it is close to the water. The address to the campground is 920 Division St. Kelly's Island Ohio 43440. Fresh water (for drinking) is available at the campground. You can view maps at www.parks.ohiodnr.gov/kellysisland

Chris - I was thinking thats what were doing at this point. My only problem is I need to finalize my plans. Does anyone have a campsite they could share? Many of the people going will be there tonight so we can talk about it at whisky island.

I didn't realize it but the Kelly's Island Kayak/Poker run is the same day. It starts at 9:00 AM. Might be fun to join in. There will be a lot of kayakers on the water.

    August 20, 2013

  • Ryan P.

If any of our group want to go see Kelly's but don't have the equipment to kayak there are many things to see on the island. The best glacial grooves are directly across the street from where we'll park at the state park. Just up the beach is a very interesting nature walk with unique flora and fauna for Ohio. There are several abandoned limestone mines you can visit along with wineries, shops, and places to eat. You will more then likely see some Lake Erie water snakes that are still on the threatened list. Be gental around them. There not poisonous but can be aggressive if provocted. There's plenty to see and do on the island if weather is poor.
